Responsible for overseeing the daily operations of ready-mix concrete production, dispatch, delivery, quality control, fleet utilization, maintenance coordination, and customer service. This position ensures that concrete is produced and delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, and in accordance with company standards, project specifications, and applicable regulations. The Operations Manager leads plant, dispatch, driver, and field operations while managing productivity, operating costs, equipment utilization, employee performance, and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and conduct or participate in safety meetings, inspections, and training.
  • Oversee daily ready-mix concrete operations, including batching, dispatching, delivery, and plant activities.
  • Manage and coordinate concrete production schedules based on customer orders and project requirements.
  • Supervise dispatch personnel, batch plant operators, drivers, and other operations staff.
  • Ensure trucks, plants, loaders, and other equipment are properly utilized and maintained.
  • Monitor delivery schedules and resolve delays, scheduling conflicts, equipment issues, and customer concerns.
  • Coordinate with sales, project managers, contractors, and customers to ensure timely concrete deliveries.
  • Ensure concrete is produced according to approved mix designs, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Work closely with quality-control personnel to address testing, mix consistency, slump, strength, and other quality requirements.
  • Monitor plant production rates, truck turnaround times, driver productivity, fuel usage, and other operational metrics.
  • Control operating expenses and identify opportunities to improve profitability and efficiency.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs for plants, mixers, loaders, and related equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, environmental, company safety, and applicable local/state regulations.
  • Investigate accidents, vehicle incidents, customer complaints, and operational problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with hiring, training, coaching, scheduling, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
  • Maintain adequate staffing levels to meet production and delivery requirements.
  • Monitor inventory of cement, aggregates, admixtures, and other raw materials and coordinate replenishment.
  • Review operational reports, production data, maintenance records, and financial performance.
  • Develop and implement procedures to improve plant productivity, delivery efficiency, quality, and customer service.
  • Support sales and estimating teams with production capacity, scheduling,
    mix, and delivery information.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, including batch tickets, delivery records, inspection reports, and operational logs.
  • Participate in budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and equipment replacement decisions.
  • Maintain positive relationships with employees, customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in ready-mix concrete, construction materials, aggregates, asphalt, or a closely related industry.
  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Strong understanding of ready-mix concrete production, batching, dispatch, and delivery operations.
  • Knowledge of concrete quality-control principles and ASTM/AASHTO or applicable industry standards.
  • Understanding of DOT, OSHA, environmental, and workplace-safety requirements.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple plants, projects, deliveries, and operational priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and operational/dispatch software.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field. NRMCA certification or related concrete-industry certification.
  • Experience managing multiple ready-mix plants.
  • Experience with dispatch, fleet-management, and concrete-batching systems.
  • Experience with budgeting, P&L responsibility, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or strong understanding of CDL/DOT
    requirements.
