Job description

About the Position

Under the direction of the Project Superintendent, the Concrete Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the project's concrete batch plant. This position operates batching equipment, produces concrete in accordance with project specifications, monitors quality control, performs routine equipment inspections, and coordinates with field personnel to meet production schedules.

The Concrete Plant Operator works closely with the Project Superintendent, Project Manager, field crews, suppliers, and subcontractors to ensure materials are produced safely, accurately, and on schedule. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate production records, identifying maintenance needs, supporting preventative maintenance efforts, and promoting IMCO's commitment to integrity, excellence, quality, and safety. Depending on project needs, the Concrete Plant Operator may assist with material inventory, equipment maintenance, and other plant-related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Operate the concrete batch plant safely and efficiently to produce concrete that meets project specifications.
  • Batch concrete according to approved mix designs while maintaining quality control standards.
  • Monitor plant operations and make adjustments as necessary to maintain consistent product quality.
  • Perform routine inspections of the batch plant and related equipment.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate production, material usage, and maintenance records.
  • Coordinate with the Project Superintendent and field crews to meet daily production schedules.
  • Communicate with aggregate, cement, admixture, and other material suppliers to ensure timely deliveries.
  • Monitor material inventory levels and notify project management when replenishment is needed.
  • Load and unload materials as required.
  • Troubleshoot batching and equipment issues and report maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Keep the batch plant and surrounding work area clean, organized, and compliant with environmental regulations.
  • Follow all IMCO safety policies, project requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Assist with plant setup, relocation, and shutdown activities as required.
  • Support other project operations as assigned.

Work Environment: This position is based at IMCO's remote Oxbow Project. Candidates must be willing to work in a remote construction environment. Overtime, weekend work, and extended work schedules may be available depending on project needs.

Education and Experience

  • Experience with concrete batching systems and quality control procedures preferred.
  • Heavy equipment operation and mechanical maintenance experience is a plus.
  • Construction or heavy civil experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of concrete batching operations and mix designs.
  • Ability to read and interpret production schedules, mix designs, and technical documents.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot plant and equipment issues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated platforms.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work around heavy equipment, moving machinery, dust, noise, and construction-related hazards.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, or varying shifts as project demands require.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout IMCO's area of operations.
