What is a batch scheduler?

A batch scheduler is a software tool used in computing environments to automate the execution of batch jobs, which are non-interactive, scheduled tasks that run sequentially or in parallel. It manages job queues, dependencies, and resource allocation to optimize processing efficiency, often used in data processing, high-performance computing, and enterprise IT operations.

What are Batch Schedulers?

Batch Schedulers are professionals responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the execution of batch processing jobs in IT environments. They use specialized software to automate the scheduling and management of tasks that run without user interaction, such as data backups, report generation, and data transfers. Certifications or experience with system administration can help in performing the role effectively.

What are some common challenges faced by Batch Schedulers in managing workload and ensuring timely completion of jobs?

Batch Schedulers often encounter challenges such as coordinating multiple interdependent jobs, handling last-minute changes, and mitigating the impact of failed or delayed jobs on downstream processes. Responsibilities

  • Blend batches to produce adhesives, sealants, and coatings by following recipe guides and cookbooks with close attention to detail.
  • Weigh and measure raw ingredients accurately to ensure consistent product quality.
  • Work with dry chemical materials and use appropriate personal protective equipment, including a respirator, as required.
  • Set up machinery, hoses, tankers, and related equipment to support mixing, filling, and material handling operations.
  • Fill pails, buckets, and bottles with finished product according to production and packaging specifications.

  • Gather and stage raw materials from designated rooms and storage areas to support scheduled production runs.
  • Use vacuums and other material handling tools to move products and raw materials safely and efficiently.
  • Perform routine inspections of products, equipment, and work areas to identify issues and maintain quality standards.
  • Assist with basic maintenance of machinery and equipment to support smooth and reliable production operations.
  • Keep workstations, machinery, and surrounding areas clean and free of debris, including sweeping and general housekeeping.
  • Collaborate with and learn from the Lead or Senior Operator during training to understand processes, safety practices, and quality requirements.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around machinery, conveyors, and production equipment.
  • Participate in first shift operations (6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.), including occasional overtime and optional Saturday work as needed for production demands.

  • Experience with manual loading and labor-intensive tasks in a production or warehouse setting.
  • Proficiency operating a sit-down forklift for material movement and staging.

  • Familiarity with hand filling and bottling operations in a production environment.
  • Comfort working with dry chemicals in a controlled manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work effectively around machinery, conveyors, and in multiple departments within a facility.
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and progress into more advanced operator roles over time.
  • Steel-toe footwear and appropriate work attire suitable for a production and warehouse environment.
Why Work Here?

You will join a highly profitable organization that is focused on growth and continuous improvement, with plans to significantly increase sales over the next several years. The facility features state-of-the-art products and offers clear pathways for career advancement from general labor into higher-level operator roles, such as press operators, blenders, and filler operators, each with opportunities for increased earnings. A contract-to-hire structure provides a path to stable, ongoing employment for those who perform well and embrace the company’s standards and values.

Work Environment

The role is based in a smaller, continuously improving facility with a clean and organized warehouse and production floor designed for smooth product flow. You will work in and around different departments, including batch mixing areas with separate rooms containing tankers and blending equipment, and will regularly interact with colleagues around machinery and conveyors. The environment involves working with dry chemicals under controlled conditions, with an emphasis on safety and training to ensure tasks are performed correctly. The position is on first shift, running from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with a few hours of overtime and occasional, non-mandatory Saturday work as production needs arise.
