Job description

Position Responsibilities

The Head Girls Basketball Coach will be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all aspects of the girls basketball program, including varsity and sub-varsity levels.
  • Planning and conducting organized, purposeful, and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Teaching basketball fundamentals, team concepts, sportsmanship, leadership, and accountability.
  • Creating a positive team culture that reflects the values and expectations of Ellington High School Athletics.
  • Communicating effectively with student-athletes, families, assistant coaches, school administration, and the athletic department.
  • Supervising student-athletes at all practices, games, team events, and during team travel.
  • Working collaboratively with the Athletic Director regarding scheduling, program needs, eligibility, roster management, and team expectations.
  • Supporting the academic, social, and athletic growth of all student-athletes.
  • Ensuring compliance with all Ellington Public Schools, NCCC, and CIAC rules and regulations.
  • Promoting the girls basketball program within the school and greater Ellington community.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Previous basketball coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or competitive youth level.
  • Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, player development, game strategy, and program organization.
  • The ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, families, coaches, and school personnel.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • A commitment to sportsmanship, character development, and educational athletics.
  • Current or ability to obtain required coaching certifications, including CPR/First Aid and any required CIAC coaching modules.
  • Successful completion of all district hiring and background check requirements.

The Head Coach is expected to serve as a role model for student-athletes and represent Ellington High School in a professional manner at all times. The coach should be committed to building a competitive program rooted in teamwork, respect, accountability, and pride in the Ellington community.
