Job description

Description If you have a passion for sports and an interest in supporting community recreation, apply to join Cary's Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources team as an Athletic Aide- Sports Scorekeeper. In this role, you will be responsible for performing routine scorekeeping for youth and adult leagues and tournaments and helping to ensure that our community sports program runs smoothly. Candidates should be energetic and responsible with strong communication skills.

Sports Scorekeepers will be hired as either Athletic Aide II or Athletic Aide III, depending on age, skills, knowledge, and experience. Athletic Aide IIs work with youth sports leagues only; Athletic Aide IIIs may work with youth and adult leagues. Athletic Aide IIIs may serve as the senior scorekeeper, handling difficult situations in the absence of Athletic Aide IV.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year. Typical Tasks Keeps score for sports leagues, keeping a scorebook and running a scoreboard Assists in setting up gyms and fields for league play Fills out accident report forms and incident report forms Fills out results forms and playing time sheets Assists with the administration of special events and league-related activities, such as equipment distribution, uniform distribution, and league team placements Communicates issues and problems to Athletic Aide IV's, full-time Athletic staff, and emergency personnel Enforces Town of Cary policies Provides routine information on departmental policies, procedures and services Performs other job-related tasks as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities General knowledge of major sports, particularly baseball, softball, basketball, and volleyball, and some knowledge of other sports General knowledge of common computer software Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing Ability to interact with the public and participants tactfully and constructively Ability to read and write handwritten and typewritten materials Ability to move freely in order to visit activity sites and handle/care for sports equipment Minimum and Preferred Qualifications Education and Experience Requires some experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics as an administrator, coach, or scorekeeper (or as a participant, for Athletic Aide II).

An Athletic Aide II must be at least 16 years of age and an Athletic Aide III must be at least 18 years of age. Physical Requirements Work in this class requires the employee to be able to move about freely and walk unassisted in order to move about the facility. An employee must be able to lift or move moderately heavy to heavy items ( up to 25 lbs.)

Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. The employee must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat, for extended periods of time. Conditions of Employment Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI finger-printing, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
