They ensure that the game’s score and related data are accurately tracked and reported, working closely with referees and other game officials. Scorekeepers may use a combination of manual scorebooks and electronic systems, depending on the level of play. What does a basketball scorekeeper do?

Basketball scorekeepers attend games and track the score of one or both teams. In this role, you must pay close attention to the action on the court; you usually update the scoreboard after confirming each point is valid. Other responsibilities include helping officials with keeping time and communicating with coaches or referees as necessary. Professional, full-time scorekeepers usually work for professional-level leagues or teams during training and the regular season, but may have other jobs during off-months. Some basketball scorekeepers also document team or player statistics into the league's system, such as the number of points scored, how many free throws were made, and penalties.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a basketball scorekeeper?
