Job description

The Basic Xray Machine Operator (BMO) performs basic radiologic procedures such as DEXA and EKG under the supervision of a Radiologist, Facility Manager, or Supervisor. The role requires technical competence, sound judgment, and adherence to established protocols for patients across various age groups. The technologist is responsible for producing high quality diagnostic images, ensuring patient safety, practicing proper radiation protection, and maintaining accurate exam documentation. The position also includes responsibility for assigned equipment, workflow support, and routine department duties.
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of DEXA protocols, diagnostic imaging principles, radiation protection, and equipment safety hazards common to radiology.
  • Ability to apply anatomical knowledge to positioning, technical procedures, and ageappropriate patient care, while adhering to HIPAA, privacy, and clinic safety policies.
  • Competence in positioning patients, operating radiology equipment, adjusting exposure factors, and producing diagnostically acceptable images.
  • Ability to navigate PACS, update exam titles or billing codes, and process patient and exam information within clinical computer systems.
  • Clear and compassionate communication with patients, families, physicians, and staff, including the ability to explain procedures and reduce patient anxiety.
  • Ability to manage workload, complete tasks on time, follow instructions, and maintain cooperative working relationships in a clinical setting.
