What does a baseball performance analyst do?

A Baseball Performance Analyst uses data and statistical methods to evaluate player performance, team strategy, and game outcomes. They collect, analyze, and interpret large amounts of baseball data to provide insights that can help coaches and players improve their game. Their work includes creating performance reports, developing predictive models, and recommending strategies for player development and in-game decisions. They often collaborate closely with coaching staff and scouts to turn data-driven insights into actionable plans.

How does a baseball performance analyst typically collaborate with coaches and players to improve team performance?

A Baseball Performance Analyst works closely with coaches and players by providing data-driven insights on player mechanics, game strategy, and opponent tendencies. Analysts often attend practices and games to collect real-time data, then translate complex statistics into actionable recommendations that coaches can use to adjust training plans or in-game tactics. Regular meetings and clear communication are essential to ensure that analytical findings are understood and effectively integrated into team routines. Building trust with coaching staff and players is key, as the analyst's role is to support rather than replace traditional baseball expertise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a baseball performance analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Baseball Performance Analyst, you need a solid background in statistics, data analysis, and sports science, often supported by a relevant degree such as statistics, data science, or kinesiology. Proficiency with tools like R, Python, SQL, and sports analytics platforms such as TrackMan or Statcast is typically required. Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills help analysts effectively convey insights to coaches and players. These skills are crucial for translating complex data into actionable strategies that enhance player performance and team success.

Job description

ABOUT RAPSODO

Headquartered in Singapore, with offices in the United States, Tรผrkiye, Japan and Malaysia, Rapsodo is a global leader in sports technology. We develop professional-grade hardware, software and connected experiences that help athletes and coaches measure performance and improve through data.

Our partners include the PGA of America, Golf Digest, Troon, multiple Major League Baseball organizations, USA Baseball, and more than 1,000 NCAA athletic programs worldwide.

As our Golf business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Senior Product Manager to lead the evolution of our software products, translating customer needs into products that deliver measurable business and customer outcomes.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role owns the software product strategy and execution for Rapsodo Golf.

You will be responsible for understanding the market, defining the product roadmap, validating customer problems, partnering closely with Engineering and Commercial teams, and delivering products that drive customer adoption, engagement and revenue growth.

You will operate with significant ownership and autonomy, balancing customer needs, engineering realities and commercial priorities to make sound product decisions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own the product roadmap for Rapsodo Golf software, aligning priorities with customer needs, business objectives, and measurable adoption, retention and revenue targets.
  • Serve as the primary bridge between customers, Commercial teams and Engineeringโ€”translating market insight into clear product direction, and engineering realities into informed commercial decisions.
  • Conduct structured customer discovery and market research, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative insights into well-prioritized product requirements rather than feature wish lists.
  • Build interactive prototypes and proof-of-concepts using AI-assisted development tools to rapidly validate ideas with customers and communicate product direction to Engineering.
  • Leverage AI throughout the product development lifecycle to improve the speed and quality of research, analysis, requirements definition, documentation and product communication.
  • Write clear Product Requirements Documents (PRDs) and work directly with Engineering to scope, prioritize and deliver product releases from concept through launch.
  • Own product backlog prioritization across international Engineering teams, making thoughtful trade-offs between customer value, commercial priorities and technical constraints.
  • Define, monitor and communicate product success through meaningful KPIs, including customer adoption, engagement, retention and commercial impact.
  • Conduct ongoing competitive analysis of the golf technology landscape to inform product positioning, roadmap decisions and investment priorities.
Golf Industry Expertise
  • Demonstrated passion for golf through active participation in, or deep involvement with, the sport.
  • Strong working knowledge of the golf technology ecosystem, including launch monitors, simulators and key competitors such as Trackman, Foresight Sports and Uneekor.
  • An established network within the golf industry, with credibility among coaches, teaching professionals, facilities, retailers, technology partners or other relevant stakeholders.
  • A clear understanding of the golfer, coach and facility customer journey, together with a well-informed perspective on Rapsodo's position within the market.
Product Management
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA is advantageous but not required.
  • Minimum five years of Product Management experience within B2B or B2B2C software environments, including at least two yearsโ€™ operating at a senior or management level.
  • Proven experience defining product strategy from customer insights, market research and business data, and personally driving execution through successful product launches.
  • Demonstrated experience translating ambiguous customer needs into product requirements that Engineering teams can successfully build and deliver.
  • Strong experience writing Product Requirements Documents (PRDs), managing product backlogs, prioritizing sprint work and shipping software products alongside Engineering teams.
  • Experience acting as the point of accountability when Commercial and Engineering priorities conflict, making balanced decisions that optimize customer and business outcomes.
  • Experience working closely with internationally distributed Engineering teams as a routine part of the role.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with senior commercial leaders, customers and technical teams.
  • Comfortable operating as the senior or sole Product Manager responsible for an entire product line.
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage AI tools to improve the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of product management work.
  • Previous experience leading, coaching and developing Product Managers is highly desirable.
