Job description

The Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A-Affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic Manager of Baseball Operations to support all baseball operations activities throughout the baseball season and beyond, including team travel (flights, buses, lodging), player relations, baseball information, and coordination with league counterparts. The Manager of Baseball Operations will work closely with the Communications Coordinator on releasing information and planning player interaction with our internal social media team, our marketing team, our community team, and external media. The Manager will coordinate with the Visiting Clubhouse Manager on ensuring that the clubhouse is appropriately staffed, supplied, and the assistants are being rewarded and coached as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Bat persons and visiting clubhouse assistants

Key Responsibilities:Baseball Operations
  • Assist with planning and execution of team travel schedule.
  • Travel execution for home and visiting teams, as well as league umpires.
  • Communicate with league counterparts on team arrivals and departures.
  • Coordinate with local and road hotels for team personnel needs.
  • Coordinate with contacts at SMF airport for team arrivals and departures.
  • Coordinate with transportation contacts for charter and vehicle needs.
  • Communicate all travel, community, events, and expectations to team.
  • Manage creation and production of annual player guide (local housing resources, etc.)
  • Coordinate and execute player appearances both at Sutter Health Park and in the community.
  • Hire, train, schedule, manage payroll, and performance of seasonal clubhouse attendants and bat persons. Coordinate with HR and Payroll as needed.
  • Oversee visiting clubhouse manager according to PDL guidelines.
  • Coordinate with home clubhouse manager on food and beverage, logistics, and general clubhouse needs.
  • Ensure monthly travel reimbursements are submitted on time.
  • Track and submit monthly package logs to MLB on time.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned throughout the baseball season.
Media
  • Facilitate in-game content for social media for home and road games when appropriate.
  • Supply content for River Cats daily online baseball information and print publications.
  • Assist communications coordinator with press releases and PR campaigns.
  • Help coordinate and facilitate all baseball and non-baseball related media requests for players.
  • Assist with all game day media information including game notes, team statistics, rosters, and collateral as needed to help provide coverage for the Communications Coordinator.
  • Assist with press box catering schedule and arrange and execute trade elements.
Team Player
  • Work with Marketing staff to prepare for preseason activities, including media guide and Media Day.
  • Work with all departments to fulfill community and player commitments.
  • Work with grounds crew and game-day production staff to execute daily game schedule.
  • Assist marketing staff with activities related to the team.
  • Off-season support of other departments based on needs and skillset.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred.
  • Industry experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous professional sports, preferably baseball, experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous scheduling, payroll review, and leadership experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior experience coordinating complex team travel schedules and lodging preferred.

Skills & Competencies:
  • Must have a valid driver license.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must have strong work ethic, results oriented, and ability to go above and beyond what is necessary to achieve success.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and with tight deadlines.
  • Strong team player, self-starter and self-motivator.
  • Willingness to work long, irregular hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Experience with ChatGPT or Copilot preferred.

Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to travel locally within the Northern California Region and Reno, Nevada.

CompensationThis position is a full-time, exempt role with an expected annual base pay of $70,304 - $71,000. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered. Total compensation & offer package will include the following:
