Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the supervision of the University Hospitals Trust (UHT), the Building Automation Systems (BAS) Manager oversees the operation, maintenance, and optimization of computerized building management systems (BMS), including HVAC, lighting, and security controls. They ensure systems are reliable, energy-efficient, and secure by leading technical teams, managing vendors, and programming control sequences to meet facility needs.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervision & Staff Management: Direct daily maintenance and troubleshooting activities; assign work orders; train personnel and manage performance.
  • System Operations & Optimization: Manage daily BAS operations, including programming, trending, scheduling, and troubleshooting complex HVAC control sequences to improve energy efficiency.
  • Maintenance & Upgrades: Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and upgrading of BAS hardware, software, and field controllers (e.g., PLC, SCADA).
  • Team Leadership: Lead engineers, technicians, and vendor partners, providing training on system functionality, alarm management, and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Project & Vendor Management: Collaborate with construction and facility teams to ensure new BAS installations and renovations are properly designed, installed, and commissioned.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure OT (Operational Technology) network security compliance and maintain documentation on system configurations and changes.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Required

  • Technical Knowledge: Understanding of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Safety Standards: Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety regulations, and building codes.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead teams, manage budgets, and make decisions.
  • Technical Proficiency: Skilled in BAS platforms, such as; Automated Logic, Tridium Niagara, JCI Metasys, or Siemens Apogee.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and Microsoft Office Suite.
