Job Summary

Hill York seeks an HVAC Controls Technician to install, program, troubleshoot, and maintain building automation and control systems across various commercial and retrofit environments. This role requires a strong understanding of HVAC systems, control logic, and networking, along with a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining a safe, professional environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Install, commission, and re-commission building automation systems utilizing pneumatic, electrical, and electronic technologies, working closely with team members to ensure seamless integration and execution.
  • Perform end-to-end testing, programming, and servicing of control systems, including static and dynamic commissioning, in coordination with engineering and field teams.
  • Set up operator workstations, configure graphical interfaces, and establish control system networks, collaborating with IT and design teams to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control systems using diagnostic tools such as multimeters, laptops, and network terminals, while sharing findings and solutions with peers to foster collective learning.
  • Maintain accurate as-built documentation and update system drawings using software such as Visio, Excel, and Word, ensuring all updates are communicated to relevant stakeholders.
  • Perform job database backups and ensure proper turnover to service teams, facilitating smooth transitions through clear documentation and verbal handoffs.
  • Track and report job progress, keeping project managers and team leaders informed of status and issues through regular updates and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Complete all required documentation, including time sheets, expense reports, work orders, and project status updates, using various systems and ensuring transparency across departments.
  • Safely operate and maintain company vehicles, including routine servicing, cleanliness, and reporting of mechanical issues, while coordinating with fleet management.
  • Conduct pre-task planning and job hazard assessments before starting work, engaging team members in safety discussions and planning.
  • Wear the required PPE and follow all company and OSHA safety protocols at all times, promoting a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Initiate and maintain positive, professional relationships with customers, clearly communicate system issues and solutions, and collaborate with internal teams to deliver consistent service.
  • Work cross-functionally with internal departments-including dispatch, purchasing, engineering, and service teams-to ensure customer needs are met efficiently and effectively.
  • Maintain company and client assets with care and professionalism, ensuring tools, equipment, and systems are protected and properly handled.
  • Demonstrate a self-starting, motivated approach to work, with a strong ability to solve problems independently and contribute effectively in team environments.
  • Identify opportunities for additional services, upgrades, or maintenance agreements and communicate them to the appropriate team supporting business development efforts.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical training in HVAC, BAS, controls, or electronics preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC controls installation, programming, troubleshooting, and service.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, control logic, and electronics, with the ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.
  • Familiarity with BAS protocols such as BACnet, Modbus, and LonWorks is a plus.
  • Skilled in using diagnostic tools including multimeters and laptops for testing sensors, circuits, and relays.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a professional customer service approach.
  • Must be a self-motivated problem solver who can work independently or as part of a team.
  • Must be able to perform physical activities including standing, walking, reaching, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs and ladders, balancing, and regularly lifting 50 lbs. or more.
  • Comfortable working in tight spaces, rooftops, heights, crawlspaces, and outdoor environments in varying weather conditions.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites and work flexible hours as needed.
