The Position:
The Industrial Engineer II, reporting to the Industrial Engineering Manager, is responsible for providing engineering support to the distribution center operations process and design, as well as our customers' specific needs. The IE II will apply intermediate-level engineering knowledge to analyze data, identify inefficiencies and implement solutions to drive productivity, reduce costs, and improve quality across the operations.
This position works Monday through Friday, from 8am-5pm.
The compensation for this position ranges from $95K-$120K, depending on experience.
This position will sit in the Memphis or Nashville area; Barrett will consider relocation assistance for the right candidate.
How You'll Make an Impact:
  • Evaluates and optimizes configuration of new and existing processes, physical layouts, material handling equipment, and systemic setup for both standard and customer-specific operations across all assigned accounts and facilities.
  • Leads large-scale improvement projects cross-functionally, developing comprehensive project plans for new business processes, executive initiatives, and best practice implementation - including mentoring more junior Industrial Engineers.
  • Participates in RFP proposals with vendors for racking and material handling solutions; designs complex layouts, optimizes equipment and storage, and partners with operations to ensure feasibility using CAD cost comparisons.
  • Applies Inventory and Production Control techniques to evaluate storage and throughput strategies, integrating advanced simulation and new technology with strong working knowledge of WMS functionality.
  • Develops labor planning tools, time studies, and labor standards to drive productivity improvements and operational efficiency.
  • Analyzes data to define requirements, establish baseline metrics, develop KPIs, and build ROI models to determine project viability and report on outcomes.
  • Leads Lean events and applies Six Sigma tools (Pareto, Fishbone, and others) alongside BI dashboards and advanced analytics to produce measurable improvements and advise mid-level management.
  • Leverages all available software tools and lean methodologies to maximize project impact, ensuring savings continuity of approved and implemented solutions.
  • Reports findings through PowerPoint presentations, written reports, and verbal communication; occasionally works directly in warehouse functional areas to assess current state and define desired state/best practice.
  • Performs other duties as assigned; moderate travel required to Barrett Distribution Center facilities (approximately 30% average, up to 50% during peak periods).

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field required
  • Master's Degree strongly preferred.
  • LEAN Six Sigma Green Belt Certification required
  • Two (2)- Four (4) years' experience in business process engineering, warehousing, production environment, or related experience required.
  • Two (2)+ years' experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing skills, preferred
  • Strong working knowledge MS tools, WMS functions, Six Sigma Tools, and CAD/Simulation.
  • Experience with work measurement tools strongly preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English (Bilingual Spanish/English skills preferred).
  • Thorough understanding of business processes and process improvement
  • Ability to adjust training presentations to skill set of audience
  • Must demonstrate high level of interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well under pressure and problem solve across a variety of business processes.
  • Able to balance competing priorities, complex situations, and tight deadlines. Strong emphasis on organizational skills and attention to detail.
