Job description

Job Title: Barn Manager Assistant
Department: Equestrian Center
Reports To: Barn Manager
Job Classification: Non-exempt
Location: Ellsworth Community College, Hamilton Campus, Iowa Falls, IA
Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour
Schedule: Less than 29 hours per week
Summary: The purpose of this position is to assist the Barn Manager in supervising the students enrolled in Horse Operations Management and provide base care for the horses, facilities, and equipment used in the Equine Program.
Job Duties:
  • Supervise and assist students in providing basic daily care to the Equine Program horses
  • Assist in the maintenance of Equine program facilities and equipment
  • Update equine, students, and facility records
  • Assist with cleanup from events as needed.

Education and Experience: High school diploma required. Associates degree in Equine Management (or related field) preferred. Three years of experience in equine barn management preferred.
Abilities: Good people skills and a helpful attitude; ability to accomplish tasks independent of the facility manager; good organizational skills and ability to take direction; attention to detail and accuracy completing tasks; willingness to accept unfamiliar tasks/learn unfamiliar skills, including basic horse safety, equipment maintenance and safe operation of tractor and skid steer. Knowledge and ability to organize multiple priorities and job duties. Knowledge of general barn procedures and protocols.
