Description
Position Title: Faculty - Mathematics (Bard High School Early College DC)
About the Bard Early Colleges
Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Colleges help high school students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic supports. Now in its second decade, the Bard Early College network serves over 3,300 students in five states and in Washington DC. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 5,500 A.A. degrees to its early college students.
Bard High School Early College DC (Bard DC), a partnership between Bard College and District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), invites applications for full-time faculty positions in Mathematics, beginning August 2024. Bard DC seeks candidates able to teach Mathematics courses at all levels, up through college-level Calculus. Ability to teach Statistics is beneficial.
Position Duties
For our faculty at Bard DC, we seek educators passionate about their fields of study and committed to advancing equity through rigorous curricula made accessible to students with varied academic preparation. The successful applicant must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service. A graduate degree in the field and college teaching experience is required; high school teaching experience, and/or experience working with high school-age students is desirable.

Qualifications
  • M.A./M.S. or M.Ed./M.A.T in Mathematics (required)
  • Ph.D. in Mathematics or related field at the time of employment (preferred)
  • The ideal candidate will have exemplary educational practices, with a demonstrated interest in engaging and challenging younger students with diverse racial backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and a variety of approaches to learning and/or needs for learning supports
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have high school teaching experience and demonstrate interest in motivating and supporting all students to excel at college level coursework
  • Experience teaching at both high school and college levels (desired)
  • Experience in working in a big city school setting is (desired)
