Description

Job Summary: NEFCO, a leading distributor of construction materials, is seeking a knowledgeable and tech-savvy Account Specialist to support and grow our VMI program. This role focuses on managing customer inventory levels, building strong client relationships, and leveraging technology to ensure accurate, efficient inventory control. The ideal candidate has a background in construction materials or industrial distribution and experience deploying VMI technology tools such as industrial vending, barcode systems, mobile inventory apps, and data -driven forecasting platforms.


Job Duties:

Inventory Management & Technology Deployment

  • Establish processes to manage and monitor customer inventory through site visits, scanning tools, and VMI hardware & software.
  • Implement and support the use of technology such as barcode scanning, RFID, IoT-enabled devices, and cloud-based inventory management platforms.
  • Train customers and internal teams on the use of mobile apps and systems for inventory tracking and replenishment.
  • Use forecasting tools and data analytics to predict usage trends and optimize stock levels.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Act as the primary contact for VMI customers, ensuring high service standards and accurate replenishment.
  • Conduct regular account reviews and site visits to assess performance and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Resolve service or inventory issues quickly while maintaining strong client satisfaction.

Sales Support & Revenue Growth

  • Collaborate with sales teams to identify and grow VMI opportunities within key accounts.
  • Recommend expanded product lines based on usage data and site requirements.
  • Drive customer retention through consistent, value-added service and inventory reliability.

Operational & System Coordination

  • Coordinate with procurement, logistics, and warehouse teams to ensure timely replenishments.
  • Maintain system accuracy by updating product lists, bin locations, and customer profiles.
  • Participate in the rollout of new VMI accounts, including initial setup, data entry, and technology installation.

Data & Reporting

  • Generate reports on product usage, inventory turnover, and service metrics using VMI software and Excel.
  • Present insights to customers and internal teams to support strategic decision-making.
  • Continuously seek process improvements through analysis of system data and user feedback.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in sales, inventory control, or supply chain, ideally within construction or industrial distribution.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMI technologies such as industrial vending, barcode scanning systems, RFID, mobile inventory applications, or ERP-integrated VMI tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and inventory software platforms.
  • Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and able to travel to customer sites regularly.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent travel to customer locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and navigate construction site environments as needed.
  • Standard business hours with occasional flexibility to support customer schedules.
