Job description

Bar Manager – San Pedro Square Market

San Jose, CA | Full-Time, Salaried | Urban Markets Entertainment (UME)

The Role

San Pedro Square Market is looking for a Bar Manager to run the show across all four bars on property. This isn't a job for someone who wants to hide in an office - we need a hands-on leader who's out on the floor, energizing the team, reading the room, and keeping every bar tight, clean, and dialed in during high-volume service.

You'll own our beer program (local breweries, rotating taps, curated selections) as part of the role - but let's be clear: we're hiring a Bar Manager first, a beer person second. If you love beer, that's a huge plus. If you don't know a lager from an IPA but you know how to run a bar team and hit your numbers, we still want to talk to you.

This is a pure alcohol-sales environment - no kitchen, no food program to manage. Just bars, beverage, and people.

Who You Are

  • A seasoned bar or restaurant leader - you've held a salaried Bar Manager or Restaurant Manager title before, and you know what it means to actually run a P&L, not just work a shift.
  • High energy, people-first, but you don't let standards slide. You can work a packed Friday night crowd with a smile and still walk the floor catching the details nobody else sees.
  • Someone who thrives on a small, close-knit leadership team - no layers of bureaucracy, just you, your GM, and a crew that leans on each other to get it done.
  • A natural motivator who can build a team culture bartenders and barbacks actually want to be part of.
  • Organized enough to run inventory, ordering, scheduling, and vendor relationships without missing a beat.

What You'll Do

  • Lead, schedule, and develop bartenders, barbacks, and support staff across all four bars.
  • Set the tone on the floor - high energy, guest-first, no excuses.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and coach your team; handle performance and discipline conversations directly and fairly.
  • Curate and manage the beer program - local breweries, seasonal rotations, and event programming - in coordination with the GM.
  • Own bar inventory, ordering, and cost controls to hit budgeted beverage cost.
  • Ensure every bar is fully stocked, spotless, and compliant with ABC and Health Department regulations.
  • Run closing procedures, cashiering, and reporting with accuracy every shift.
  • Partner with the GM on P&L review and identify opportunities to improve.

What You Bring

  • 2+ years of experience as a salaried Bar Manager or Restaurant Manager (required).
  • Strong working knowledge of spirits, beer, and bar operations; beer/brewery knowledge is a plus, not a requirement.
  • Must be 21+ and hold (or be able to obtain) Food Handlers and Alcohol Awareness certification.
  • Proven ability to lead a team through high-volume, fast-paced service.
  • Comfortable on your feet for extended periods in a bustling market environment.
  • Clear communicator who can stay calm and sharp under pressure.

Why San Pedro Square Market
