Position Summary
The Bar Captain will oversee the event space and event staff. The Bar Captain will ensure that the events are set properly and run smoothly and efficiently. The Bar Captain is the leader and point of contact for the staff, and must be hospitable and engaging to all guests. The Bar Captain must be able to cross cover any staff position to ensure the success of events. This position requires a calm demeanor during high paced and intense situations, attentiveness to all guests, and the ability to easily communicate with staff and clientele.
Key Responsibilities
Guest Engagement & Hospitality:
  • Proactively engages with guests to ensure a positive guest experience
  • Handles guest concerns and reacts quickly and professionally

Event Space Readiness & Maintenance:
  • Assists and completes all inventory logs (alcohol consumption, event item inventory, etc)
  • Regularly inspects all front and back of the house service areas and equipment to assure that sanitation, safety, energy management, preventive maintenance and other standards for the department are met.
  • Oversees and guides events and event staff event-to-event ensuring operations are executed at the highest level.
  • Reviews all Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) & layouts to ensure proper set-ups are in place
  • Assures proper inventory of all banquet service equipment and supplies to meet required needs.

Team Leadership & Support:
  • Responsible for ensuring staff is aware and ready to execute daily assignments and side work to be completed.
  • Monitors staff's performance and makes sure to keep staff on task escalate any performance feedback to manager on duty
  • Assists in facilitating trainings for the Event Staff on the Wineries food and wine offerings and service standards
  • Leads and supervises the Event Staff in all aspects and ensures service standards are followed
  • Ensures that all banquet staff are well-groomed and in proper uniform before clocking in.
  • Successfully completes any other duties as directed by the Banquet Manager and/or Event Managers

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in catering, hospitality, or food and beverage service.
  • Additional restaurant or hospitality experience is a plus, but not required
  • Proven track record of peer leadership and team delegation
  • Strong understanding of service standards and hospitality best practices
  • Experience with event planning, food and beverage service, or banquet operations
  • Familiarity with various event formats, including weddings, conferences, and private parties
  • Comfortable with event setup and breakdown, including furniture and basic AV equipment
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including food handling and fire safety protocols
  • Exceptional verbal communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to remain calm and collaborative in fast-paced or high-pressure environments
  • Team-oriented with a strong focus on delivering outstanding guest experiences
  • Current Food Handler and Alcohol Server certifications (e.g., TIPS, ServSafe), as required by jurisdiction

Essential Duties
  • Flexible schedule with all nights and weekends available
  • Able to independently lift up to 50lbs for an extended period of time
  • Must be able to walk and/or stand for 8-10 hours per day
