What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Bar Associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Bar Associate, you need knowledge of drink recipes, cash handling, and basic food safety, often supported by a food handler’s permit or responsible beverage service certification. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, bar equipment, and inventory management tools is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, efficiency, and the ability to remain calm under pressure help you excel in busy environments. These skills are crucial for delivering excellent customer service, ensuring compliance, and maintaining smooth bar operations.

Both roles work in similar environments, but Bar Associates have broader responsibilities and legal authority.

What are some common challenges a Bar Associate may face during busy shifts, and how can they effectively manage them?

We are anticipating hiring a candidate who is presently studying for the July 2026 bar exam and targeting a start date in August. This position will begin as a law clerk position and then transition to an associate attorney role once bar passage is received.

Candidates must have a strong desire to practice family law, work with private clients, appear in court, and help real people. Our ideal candidate has a desire to grow in their knowledge and practice as an attorney, and understands that their learning as an attorney does not end with bar passage - it merely begins there.

  • VOIP phones
  • Health, Dental & Vision Insurance for the employee is paid at 100% cost
Compensation:

$80,000 base upon bar passage

Responsibilities:
  • Communicate with clients, interview witnesses, and consult legal experts in order to prepare for trial
  • Prepare the initial drafts of various documents, such as pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests/responses
  • Create legal memoranda outlining results of research to help plan the best strategy for success for court proceedings
  • Conduct legal research to confirm cited legal authority for judges and attorneys

Qualifications:
  • Willing to take, or have already passed state bar exam
  • Must have great writing skills and effective communication skills to participate in oral arguments effectively
  • At least one year of experience in working in the legal field
