Job description

Offit Kurman, a growing Am Law 200 firm, is seeking a confident, highly organized, and proactive Legal Administrative Assistant to support our Bankruptcy practice. This role supports a team of bankruptcy attorneys in Bethesda and requires litigation experience, while bankruptcy experience is solely a preference (including Chapters 7, 11, Subchapter V, and Chapter 11.) Candidates must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail and strict deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, format, and proofread bankruptcy legal documents, including petitions, schedules, motions, and correspondence
  • Manage electronic filings (CM/ECF) and ensure compliance with court requirements
  • Maintain and organize client files (electronic and physical), pleadings, and case materials
  • Track deadlines and proactively manage attorney calendars to ensure timely filings and court appearances
  • Coordinate hearings, meetings, and conference calls
  • Communicate professionally with clients, courts, trustees, and creditors
  • Support new client/matter intake, including conflict checks and file opening
  • Assist with case management, including document organization and trial preparation support
  • Process expense reports and other administrative/financial documentation
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and adherence to firm policies

 Qualifications

  • Direct law firm experience - litigation experience required , bankruptcy experience preferred but not required (Chapter 7, Chapter 11, and Subchapter V Chapter 11 is a plus)
  • Minimum 5+ years of legal administrative experience in a law firm or professional services environment
  • Confident, proactive, and highly organized with the ability to anticipate needs and stay ahead of deadlines
  • Strong experience with CM/ECF e-filing 
  • Excellent document production skills (formatting, proofreading, transcription, and editing)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a client-service mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), document management systems, and time entry software
