Job Description
Position Overview
As an Associate on the Strategy team, you will support high-priority strategic initiatives across the company and help inform enterprise-level decision-making. You will work across functions to evaluate growth opportunities, solve complex business problems, identify value-creation opportunities, and develop actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
We are looking for a strategic thinker who moves comfortably between high-level framing and detailed analysis, thrives in ambiguity, and brings structure to evolving business questions. Success in this role requires a deeply collaborative approach, along with strong business judgment, curiosity, a bias toward action, and the ability to influence without authority.
This position is on-site at Invenergy's headquarters in downtown Chicago, IL.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct market, policy, competitive, and financial analyses, including business case development, to inform strategy, investment priorities, and business performance.
  • Evaluate new growth opportunities, business models, strategic partnerships, and operational improvement initiatives.
  • Support annual strategic planning processes, including development of strategic priorities, key initiatives, and monitoring metrics.
  • Drive cross-functional strategic projects that address important business questions. This includes coordinating across teams, tracking progress, and resolving issues.
  • Structure ambiguous problems into clear workstreams, identify key drivers, and synthesize findings into practical recommendations.
  • Develop presentations, memos, and executive-ready materials that clearly communicate insights, tradeoffs, and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Contribute to a high-performing team culture through strong ownership, sound judgment, and effective collaboration.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, economics, engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in strategy, corporate development, management consulting, investment banking, project finance, FP&A, or a similarly analytical role. Minimum 2+ years with advanced degree.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including financial modeling, Excel, and data visualization.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to break down complex and ambiguous issues into structured analyses and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to distill complex ideas and present to executive-level audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build credibility across teams and functions.
  • Eligible to work in the United States without the need for employer visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in corporate development, strategy, investment banking, project finance, FP&A, or a similarly analytical role.
  • Experience in the energy sector, power markets, infrastructure, or an adjacent industry.
  • Experience supporting senior executives on strategic planning, board materials, or major cross-functional initiatives.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a self-starter with a high degree of ownership and accountability.
  • Proficiency in (or demonstrated aptitude to learn and apply) technology and visualization tools, including GenAI/LLMs, VBA, Python, and PowerBI.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to connect detailed analysis to broader business implications.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
