Job description

Job Title: Student Band Manager – Mighty Marching Thorobred Band

Number of Positions: 2

Department: Department of Music / University Bands

Job Location: Band Room / Practice Field (Includes occasional off-campus travel)

Supervisor/Timekeeper: Dr. Rodney Chism

Supervisor Contact: (502) 597-5815

Hours per Week (Max 20): 20

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Director of Bands and instructional staff with the daily operational and logistical needs of the Mighty Marching Thorobred Band.
  • Help prepare, set up, and break down equipment, water stations, and staging for daily rehearsals and performances.
  • Assist with the inventory, distribution, and collection of band uniforms, instruments, and sheet music.
  • Travel with the band to away games, exhibitions, and special events to provide on-site logistical support.
  • Run errands on campus and perform light administrative duties in the band office, such as copying music and organizing files.
  • Ensure the band room and storage areas remain clean, organized, and secure.
  • Serve as a positive, energetic, and supportive liaison between the band staff and student members.


Qualification and Requirements:

  • Must be a currently enrolled KSU student with confirmed Federal Work-Study eligibility.
  • Must have flexible availability to accommodate afternoon/evening rehearsals and weekend game-day travel.
  • Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to take initiative.
  • Must be able to safely lift, push, or move band equipment (up to 30 lbs) and stand for extended periods during rehearsals and events.
  • A positive attitude and a willingness to be a team player in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Note: Prior marching band experience is highly preferred but not required—enthusiasm and a love for the Mighty Marching Thorobreds are the most important qualifications!
