THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY
POSITION TITLE: Mechanic
ASSIGNMENT: Mechanic 3 - Heat Ventilation/Air Conditioning - Facilities
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- A high school diploma or equivalent or trade school certificate
- Three (3) years documented experience in the particular trade or craft
- A valid Florida Commercial Driver's License or agrees to obtain within ninety (90) days
- Physical Requirements: Ability to do strenuous physical tasks during the performance of duties, to include lifting up to 100 pounds, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, pushing, etc.
- Satisfactory clearance of a criminal history records check and drug screening
ADDITIONAL DESIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Mastery of proper use and care of equipment, tools and materials related to the particular trade or craft
PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists supervisor by analyzing the procedures for servicing and repairing air conditioning systems.
- Investigates complaints pertaining to failed or poorly operating equipment to determine a proper course of action to repair.
- Makes recommendations to resolve indoor air quality issues.
- Works with outside vendors, with regards to indoor air quality issues for such things as equipment repair, corrective measures pertaining to the energy management system and test and balance activities.
- Assists agencies specializing in indoor air quality issues.
- Repairs installed units, as directed by a supervisor or designee, by examining visually for defective parts or determines the cause of the malfunction by performing tests, utilizing knowledge of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration theory.
- Dismantles malfunctioning systems, replaces or adjusts defective or worn parts to repair system.
- Reports directly to the HVAC lead supervisor and performs any duties within the scope of capabilities as assigned.
- Assists in the preventative maintenance program to obtain optimal performance of the equipment.
- Performs related work as required.
- Operates vehicles in a safe and lawful manner
- Uses and maintains tools and equipment
- Coordinates and inspects work by outside contractors.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Other duties as assigned by supervising administrator
TERM:
Length of contract and number of hours worked are determined by specific allocation as approved annually during planning-budgeting process
APPRAISAL:
Performance will be appraised annually in accordance with School Board Policy
