THE SCHOOL BOARD OF HIGHLANDS COUNTY

POSITION TITLE: Substitute

ASSIGNMENT: Substitute

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A high school diploma or equivalent
  2. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform essential functions and tasks which may include exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10 pounds of force as frequently as necessary; lifting, crawling, kneeling, bending, stooping, pulling, and pushing, if required.
  3. Satisfactory clearance of a Criminal History Records check and drug screening

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be able to follow oral and written directions and have the ability to establish effective working relationships with staff and students
  2. Must have the ability to maintain effective classroom management strategies
  3. Must complete classroom observation requirement
  4. Must have reliable transportation
  5. Must have working telephone
  6. Must be available to accept jobs when offered

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Maintains and respects confidentiality of student and school personnel information
  2. Maintains a discipline and classroom control that fosters a safe and positive environment for all students and staff in accordance with school and district policies
  3. Ensures adequate supervision to provide for the health, welfare, and safety of all students they are instructing
  4. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
  5. Reports to the front office upon arrival at school, requests clarification of class assignment, school rules and procedures
  6. Reports all student injuries, accidents, illnesses, and discipline problems to the appropriate authority immediately or as soon as is reasonably possible
  7. Implements teacher's lesson plans, while ensuring the integrity of academic time and in a manner which motivates students to learn and participate
  8. Organizes students for effective instruction
  9. Dismisses all students from the classroom at the appropriate time, ensuring classroom is empty and in a clean and orderly fashion
  10. Collects and places students papers on teachers desk or requested location
  11. Returns instructional materials, equipment, and keys to proper place
  12. Reports to sub designee to determine if additional services are required
  13. Complies with and supports school and division regulations and policies
  14. Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned by building administrator(s) in accordance with district and school policies and practices
