Balanced Body® is hiring! We're on the hunt for an experienced Payroll and HR Specialist to join our People team and help keep both the paychecks and the people side of Balanced Body running smoothly.
In this role, you'll manage payroll - domestic and international - for 450+ employees on our biweekly cycle - hands-on and detail-heavy during processing week, lighter in the week between - while also handling core HR responsibilities across employee records, compliance, training & development, and onboarding/offboarding, plus supporting the broader People team on recruiting, employee relations, and safety. You'll bring sharp attention to detail, rock-solid consistency, and the communication chops to work cross-functionally with leadership across the company. What You'll Do
General Responsibilities
Payroll
  • Run regular audits, reconcile reports, and untangle complex payroll discrepancies
  • Audit timecards and partner with leaders on corrections
  • Track leaves of absence and benefit payments
  • Maintain clean, accurate payroll records
  • Field and resolve payroll questions from employees and managers
  • Process manual checks (adjustments, final checks, etc.) as needed
  • Draft commission, incentive, and bonus calculations per company process
  • Maintain G/L reconciliations for payroll, benefits, PTO accrual and related activities, and other accounts as assigned
  • Generate draft journal entries to record payroll and related activity for review
  • Assist in annual payroll audits, including year-end reconciliations

US Domestic Payroll
  • Process bi-weekly and off-cycle payrolls accurately and on time for 450+ multi-state employees
  • Implement payroll software changes and set up new states nationwide
  • Keep us compliant with federal, state, and local tax laws

International Payroll
  • Process monthly international payroll
  • Implement payroll software changes as needed
  • Learn and train leaders on international payroll laws
Employee Records & Compliance
  • Maintain, file, audit, and inspect employee records, ensuring compliance and organized filing (including termination records); responsible for file archiving
  • Ensure HR documents (e.g., performance reviews, disciplinary actions) are signed and uploaded into HRIS
Training & Development
  • Track certifications, ensuring documentation is complete and current in HRIS
  • Assist with training schedules, vendor communications, and all logistics for company-wide trainings
  • Maintain accurate training records for EDD ETP compliance
Onboarding & Offboarding
  • Support onboarding: build new-hire packets and files
  • Support offboarding: build termination packets and maintain termination records
Employee Engagement & Culture
  • Partner in employee events, celebrations, and recognition
  • Manage the swing shift contact roster
Miscellaneous
  • Support recruiters with scheduling interviews and participate in open interviews
  • Support HR Generalists with employee relations activities
  • Support the Safety Specialist with safety training and EHS software updates

Requirements
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of experience in a combined payroll and HR role, or equivalent combined experience across payroll and human resources functions
  • Hands-on experience with employee relations, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations
  • Multi-state payroll and employee relations experience is a plus (CA, TN, CO, OR)
  • Strong grasp of payroll best practices, employment law, and US labor law (FLSA, OSHA, FMLA)
  • Associate's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field; Bachelor's in HR a plus
  • Payroll Practitioner Certificate a plus
  • Proficiency in payroll software (Paylocity a plus), experience managing an HRIS, and intermediate/advanced Excel
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • International HR compliance experience is a plus
  • Manufacturing environment experience is a plus
  • A trustworthy handle on sensitive, confidential information
  • Excellent communication and people skills
  • Self-directed and able to prioritize with urgency when deadlines demand it
