Job description

BakerHostetler is seeking an experienced and dynamic Senior Recruiting Manager to lead lateral attorney hiring for our West Coast offices. Reporting to the Director of Recruiting, this role is instrumental in advancing the firm’s strategic growth objectives and delivering a best-in-class recruiting experience.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, relationship-driven professional who can align talent acquisition strategies with the firm’s broader growth strategy while ensuring operational excellence and exceptional candidate engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Talent Acquisition - Collaborate with Office Managing Partners and Practice Group Leaders to design and implement recruiting strategies that support the firm’s long-term growth and strengthen its market position on the West Coast, specifically focusing on partner recruitment for Los Angeles, Orange County, San Francisco, and Seattle offices. This position will also lead Seattle associate recruiting efforts.
  • Market Intelligence & Relationship Management - Cultivate strong relationships with leading search firms and industry contacts to ensure a steady pipeline of high-caliber lateral candidates. Leverage market insights to guide recruiting priorities and enhance competitive positioning.
  • Client Service Excellence - Deliver exceptional client service and high-quality work. Take initiative, anticipate needs, and exercise independent, sound judgment to effectively interface with candidates, search firms, and firm leadership.
  • End-to-End Recruitment Leadership - Oversee the full lifecycle of lateral attorney hiring—from sourcing and direct outreach to candidate engagement, screening, and offer negotiation—adhering to the firm’s lateral recruiting procedures and ensuring a seamless and professional experience for candidates and internal stakeholders.
  • Interview Process Oversight - Coordinate all aspects of the interview process, including scheduling, feedback consolidation, and decision facilitation. Advise leadership on candidate evaluation and offer development.
  • Strategic Communications - Prepare and deliver confidential documents and reports—including Policy Committee memos—to support partner recruiting and executive decision-making.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with California Recruiting Manager and firmwide recruiting team on multi-city searches, and West Coast growth initiatives.
  • Support associate mentor program leaders as needed with professional development initiatives.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if needed.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of 10+ years of attorney recruiting experience, with specific expertise in partner recruiting, preferably in a law firm or legal search firm environment.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with LinkedIn Recruiter and other attorney search tools; MS Office Suite required; familiarity with ViGlobal suite is a plus.
  • Advanced interviewing techniques and strong understanding of attorney recruiting best practices.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and build relationships at all levels.
  • Highest level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information.
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and ability to anticipate and resolve issues efficiently.

The expected annual salary for this position ranges from $175,000-195,000. The salary offered will be determined by a wide range of factors including but not limited to experience level, education/training, and relevant skills.
