ABOUT THE POSITION
We're looking for a passionate Principal Data Analyst who is eager to design, build, and implement modern analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will play a key role in designing and engineering state-of-the-art data analytics solutions, leveraging Power BI, tools like WhereScape RED, ADF, Snowflake and advanced analytics using AI and ML technologies to drive innovation and efficiency. With proven experience implementing comprehensive systems using automation frameworks and cloud data platforms, this role offers the opportunity to further expand your expertise in advanced data engineering and analytical solutions while contributing to transformative initiatives.

Key responsibilities:
  • Analytics Implementation - Design and deliver end-to-end analytical solutions by applying advanced data exploration, statistical methods, and advanced analytics tools and techniques. Build analytical processes that transform raw data into actionable insights to inform enterprise decision-making.
  • Data Engineering - Contribute to the design, development, and optimization of scalable data pipelines and storage solutions. Apply strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture, ELT/ETL design, and best practices in modern data warehousing to support large-scale analytical ecosystems.
  • Data Transformation & Automation - Leverage automation frameworks-primarily WhereScape RED-to architect, generate, and deploy end-to-end data warehouse objects. Automate ingestion, transformation, metadata management, and lifecycle maintenance to accelerate delivery and improve consistency across the data environment.
  • Data Platforms - Implement data solutions using platforms such as Snowflake and Azure. Build secure, high-performance data structures and integrate them with automated pipelines to support enterprise-level analytics.
  • Dimensional Modeling - Design and maintain robust dimensional data models. Ensure models reflect business processes accurately and support efficient analytical querying across subject areas.
  • SQL Development & Optimization - Write, tune, and validate complex SQL logic across Snowflake, Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, and other cloud-based environments. Improve query performance and ensure efficient data processing at scale to support analytical workloads.
  • Project Execution & Collaboration - Drive technical execution of analytics and data engineering initiatives. Coordinate cross-functional workstreams, define technical deliverables, and ensure solutions are aligned to business objectives and enterprise data strategy.
  • Technical Mentorship & Best Practices - Serve as a subject-matter expert in analytics engineering, data warehousing, and automation using WhereScape RED. Provide guidance and enforce best practices in data modeling, data transformations, and metadata-driven automation.

CALIFORNIA RESIDENCY REQUIREMENT
Employment with the Superior Court of Los Angeles County requires employees to maintain their primary residence within the State of California. Applicants must currently reside in California or be willing to establish California residency by the start of employment. This requirement will be verified during the hiring process.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS
To qualify, you must meet one of the following options at the time of application:
  • OPTION I: 9+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
  • OPTION II: Associate's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 7+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
  • OPTION II: Bachelor's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 5+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.
  • OPTION IV: Master's degree* in information technology, computer science, management information systems, or related field; -AND- 3+ years' experience in business analysis, requirements definition and information technology support as it relates to data and analytics.

Note: Credit for experience is given based on a 40-hour workweek. Part-time experience is credited on a part-time ratio (e.g., working 20 hours per week for two months equals one month of experience). Overtime does not count toward additional credit.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience designing, developing, and deploying analytics-driven data solutions that support enterprise decision-making.
  • Proficiency in data engineering, data warehousing concepts, and modern data architecture.
  • Strong experience with WhereScape RED and other automation platforms such as Azure Data Factory.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Azure, and cloud-based data engineering frameworks.
  • Deep understanding of dimensional modeling principles and experience designing effective analytical data models.
  • Advanced ability to write and optimize SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis across diverse database platforms.
  • Experience translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions and documenting end-to-end data processes.
  • Exposure to Python or R for analytical processing or automation.
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning concepts and how they integrate with predictive analytics workflows.
  • Understanding of DevOps/DataOps practices within analytics engineering pipelines.
  • Experience with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI).
