What's it like working for an innovative company that takes on some of the world's most important challenges? Rewarding. At BAE Systems we protect those who protect us. Our Jacksonville Maritime Solutions shipyard is seeking to hire motivated entry level Welders from our Trade School Partners.
This position will be in support our Submarine program at Jacksonville Maritime Solutions shipyard. These roles are responsible for fabrication on submarine manufacturing. The primary tasks include the welding of newly installed structural members and plating, as well as the welding of re-installed temporary access openings. Additional tasks include the following...
  • Welding on a wide variety of materials, using an ever-growing number of weld processes
  • Welding structural assemblies using GMAW and SMAW during fabrication and installation of submarine construction
  • Participation in continuous training in traditional, and new welding processes, using both conventional and state-of-the art equipment (Qualification required for each process)
  • Use of pneumatic tools such as grinders, burr tools, wire brushes, etc.
  • Oxy/fuel pre-heat and carbon/arc gouging as well as verifying weld size using weld gauges
  • Reading and interpretation of weld symbols, technique sheets, and work packages
  • Additional tasks as assigned
  • All tasks require strict adherence to the company's safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • A structural welder should be able to read and utilize welding procedures and welding symbols.
  • A structural welder should be able to safely and efficiently use an oxy-fuel torch to apply pre-heat to materials prior to welding.
  • A structural welder should be able to safely and efficiently use air carbon arc gouging equipment to gouge welds.
  • A structural welder should be able to safely and efficiently use electric and pneumatic grinders to prepare materials for welding, as well as to clean and contour finished welds.
  • A structural welder should be able to use measuring tools and gauges to verify dimensions of weld joints in accordance with approved joint designs.
  • A structural welder should be able to use weld gauges to verify weld size and quality in accordance with specifications.
  • A structural welder should be able to utilize ceramic backing in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions with the semi-automatic welding processes.
  • A structural welder should be able to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes, such as Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of high strength steel and stainless steel.
  • This position will be in support of Submarine projects.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Must be a graduate or current student of JTech
  • MIG Welding experience or training
  • Structural welding experience
  • Vocational, Technical and Community Colleges or Apprentice programs
  • Experience working in the construction industry or a manufacturing environment
  • Basic mathematical skills
  • Ability to interpret welding and shipyard procedures, structural drawings, technical manuals, test documents and diagrams

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $44720 - $78520
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
