The Role:

Backstage is seeking a Business Development Executive, Casting (East Coast) to grow the number of clients posting and engaging with jobs and casting calls on Backstage's talent-marketplace career platforms (Backstage, Mandy, and StarNow). Our business development consists of 10 business development professionals and is part of Backstage's larger Casting Department. The Casting Department includes account managers, casting editors, website admins, content specialists, business development executives, and customer service representatives working across nine countries - all specialized in the hiring and casting needs of creative projects. You will work closely with all members of the business development team, sharing ideas, working collaboratively, and engaging in new initiatives and projects. We value autonomy and collaboration equally, and foster a culture where we trust our team members to execute on their own volition, while working collaboratively towards mutual goals. As this role will require in-person demos, meetings at casting offices, and attendance at networking events, we are only open to NYC-based candidates at this time.

As a Business Development Executive specializing in Casting, your primary objectives are to expand our client base and drive the creation of job posts from new and existing employers, which include production companies, casting directors, producers, directors, brands, agencies, schools, and content creators who are staffing projects for film/TV, commercials, theater, marketing campaigns, and more. In this role, you will identify and reach out to new leads, educate and onboard new clients, and build cohesive, collaborative and dynamic relationships with new and existing customers. You will also be responsible for building strategic partnerships with organizations within the creative and professional sectors to reach new markets, grow Backstages' opportunities to convert content creators into actively engaged clients, improve and grow brand awareness of Backstage's platforms, and build trust within the market.

In this role, you will also work with other stakeholders across the business, including but not limited to the account management, content curation, product, and marketing teams, to target new markets and leads, onboard new customers, enhance the overall product and user experience, and manage and sustain ongoing relationships with existing customers. You will also be involved in developing, planning, and implementing strategies that contribute to our overall business objectives.

This role will report to Backstage's Business Development Manager.

Compensation for this role is structured as $65,000-$75,000 base compensation plus commission, with OTE of $84,500-$97,500 annually.

What You'll Do:

  • Identify and quality new leads in casting, tv/film, creative agencies, and brands; create consultative pitches that are tailored to the employer type and market needs

  • Manage business development pipeline to ensure each lead is contacted and converted in a timely manner

  • Produce annual roadmaps, setting targets and outreach strategies to drive job posting and growth on our platform

  • Ideate and implement business development strategies to convert new clients into long-term users and advocates of our platforms

  • Conduct research and analysis into the current casting landscape, gaining an in-depth knowledge and special understanding of assigned regions and verticals

  • Onboard and work closely with new clients; guide them on best practices so to optimize the platform, promote their job posts, and set up future posts autonomously

  • Provide thorough reports and insights for all employers, markets, and verticals

  • Organize, execute on, and lead meetings and presentations/demos

  • Attend industry networking events; meet with employers both in person and remotely to foster long-term relationships

  • Analyze performance measurements, reporting & strategic roadmaps; ensure the business receives measurable ROI on all strategic activities

  • Develop strategies to ensure the retention of customers you have brought to the platform

  • Analyze potential strategic partnerships with relevant bodies to promote our products & drive service awareness, such as unions, associates, relevant organisations, key influencers and commercial entities

  • Research and build lead-generation lists and strategic relationships with schools and educational facilities with relevant programs; provide demos and talent recruitment advice to students

  • Represent the business at industry conferences, expos, networking and events, to build brand awareness, generate new business opportunities, and strengthen relationships with key decision-makers.

This position offers a competitive salary plus performance-based commission, with a competitive On-Target Earnings (OTE) package.

What we're looking for from you:

  • Professional experience working with casting directors, producers, directors, creative directors, talent agents, and/or marketing/advertising agencies required

  • Demonstrated experience in an Account Management, Business Development, or Client Success role; high-velocity B2B SaaS tech or marketplace experience strongly preferred

  • Deep customer empathy; you enjoy solving customer pain points and needs

  • Friendly, positive, and trustworthy demeanor; clients enjoy working with you

  • Experience with customer support and segmentation, and strategizing effective communication and positioning for each unique segment

  • Technical acuity; must be able to to understand, utilize, and explain our online casting/hiring technology

  • Ability to translate technical language to a non-technical audience

  • Strong analytical skills; you are able to assemble and interpret data, create executive summaries, and deliver actionable insights

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills that can be tailored to suit a variety of individual personalities and levels of seniority

  • Excellent project management skills; you are able to work autonomously, maintain detailed records, and be attentive and responsive to client communication

  • Proven ability to solve a wide variety of unstructured challenges

Compensation is commensurate with various factors including, but not limited to, relevant experience, qualifications, skills, training, licensure, certifications, geographic cost of labor, and other business and organizational needs. Compensation range for candidates in other locations may differ based on the cost of labor in that location. The compensation range for this position is: $65,000.00 - $97,500.00 per year.
