Software Engineer (Backend Application Engineer)
Overview:
This effort requires a candidate research and recommend technology to improve the current systems in support of organization's strategic vision. The candidate will be responsible for translating business requirements into specific systems, applications, data, or process designs for very large complex IT solutions and integrating architecture. The candidate will design, develop, and analyze overall architecture. The candidate will be expected to determine integrated hardware, software and data architecture solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs. The candidate will also lead on architectural governance and decisions related to Product, Technology, and system tradeoffs as part of a cross functional architecture decision group and provide direction for design activities.
Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams to bring innovative solutions to the federal customer's software.
  • Gather and document requirements from systems engineers and developers on set up of multiple development and testing environments.
  • Work closely with development team and subject matter experts to establish the technical vision and analyze tradeoffs between usability and performance needs.
  • Conduct development and testing of Java based applications as needed.
  • Critically evaluate information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, and distinguish user requests from the underlying true needs.
  • Develop the following documentation according to standard templates, using natural language.
  • Use Cases, GUI, Screen and Interface designs.


Required Qualifications:

  • Eight (8) years of experience, or five (5) years of experience and a Bachelor's degree, or three years of experience and a Master's Degree.
  • Five years of Object Oriented Programming experience
  • Three years of database experience (i.e. Oracle, MySQL, etc.)
  • Three years of experience with Python or Perl programming languages.
  • Three years of experience integrating web services using APIs (i.e. JSON, RESTful, Django, Python, MongoDB)
  • Strong understanding of standing up development environments. Basic coding skills.

Required Education:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • In lieu of a technical degree, candidates must have a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of (8) years of relevant experience.
