About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Java Developer with strong Angular expertise to join a federal IT project team. This role involves designing and developing enterprise applications using the Twelve-Factor App methodology, building modern, responsive UI components, and architecting scalable microservices. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including business analysts, QA, and project managers, while providing technical mentorship to junior and mid-level developers.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop software applications using the Twelve-Factor App methodology based on functional requirements
- Build applications using Angular, Java, REST APIs, and Spring Boot
- Develop innovative UI designs and web components in collaboration with cross-functional experts
- Continually assess emerging technologies and recommend improvements to development processes and delivery efficiency
- Implement GUIs using Angular, JavaScript, JSP, HTML, CSS, XML, AJAX, and jQuery
- Design web page components compliant with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. § 794d)
- Design and develop microservices using Spring Boot, Java, and RESTful architecture
- Develop SOAP-based web services using JAX-WS, Apache Axis, and WSDL
- Apply DevOps best practices across CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, Git, and Bitbucket
- Work with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and containerization technologies
- Write unit tests for all Java classes using JUnit, Mockito, and PowerMock
- Participate in technical design/development discussions and propose solutions to improve system architecture and code quality
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior/mid-level developers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications (Basic)
- 10+ years of experience with Java, Spring Boot, Angular, and React
- Extensive design and programming experience in Java and JEE technologies
- Extensive hands-on experience with Angular (v9+)
- Experience working on Agile projects; strong knowledge of Agile terminology and tools (e.g., JIRA)
- Education: Master''s degree + 5 years of experience, Bachelor''s degree + 7 years of experience, or 13+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
Required Skills
- Strong hands-on experience with Java, Angular 9+, Spring Boot, and REST API
- Experience designing high-throughput, low-latency systems using Java and Angular, including architecting scalable solutions for high concurrent request volumes
- Experience with Single-Page Application (SPA) architecture
- Experience building responsive web pages with an understanding of cross-browser compatibility standards
- Experience designing and deploying cloud-native applications on AWS with PostgreSQL
- Experience with CI/CD tooling: Jenkins, Git/Bitbucket, Jira, Nexus, Maven, SonarQube, Fortify, UrbanCode Deploy
- Experience with web services technologies (XML, JAXP, JAXB, JAX-WS, AXIS, JERSEY, JSON, CXF, REST, SOAP) and security protocols (LTPA, OAuth2/JWT)
- Hands-on design and development experience with microservices and RESTful APIs
- Experience with automated testing: JUnit, mocking frameworks, TDD, and BDD (Cucumber)
- Experience with JEE technologies: Struts, Spring Framework (IoC, MVC, Transactions, Security, Batch), Spring Boot, Spring JDBC, JPA, Hibernate, SOAP/RESTful, XML, DB2, Tomcat, WebSphere
- Experience with static code analysis tools (e.g., SonarQube) and remediating identified bugs, vulnerabilities, and hotspots
- Working knowledge of web application security vulnerabilities and mitigation strategies
Preferred / Desired Skills
- Proficiency designing and implementing Kafka-based event-driven architectures — producers, consumers, topics, partitions, consumer groups, broker configuration, message retention, replication/partitioning strategy, Kafka Connect, and Kafka Streams
- Strong understanding of current AI trends and the ability to apply AI knowledge to enhance or redesign existing system architectures
- Experience implementing Section 508 standards for web applications
- Experience writing technical white papers and systems design documentation
- Prior experience on federal or state government IT projects
