Position Status: Part-Time Temporary / *Not to exceed 29 hours/week

JOB SUMMARY
The Math Lab Tutor provides academic support to individual students and small groups in mathematics-related subjects. The position is open to students currently enrolled and actively pursuing a two- or four-year degree. The role requires ability to adjust tutoring approaches to meet the learning needs of each student and promote academic success.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provide one-on-one and small-group, in-person tutoring to support student understanding of mathematical concepts at all levels.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional and tutoring strategies to enhance learning and comprehension.
  • Monitor students during testing as assigned.
  • Identify academic needs and recommend strategies to address areas of concern (e.g., study habits, learning strategies, classroom behaviors).
  • Motivate and support students through positive feedback and encouragement.
  • Promote a college-going culture by serving as a positive role model and providing informal mentoring.
  • Tutors may be asked to assist with additional tasks to support various departments in the college.

EQUIPMENT
  • Perform tasks using personal computers and peripheral devices.
  • Operate and maintain (if applicable) office equipment such as photocopiers, printers, and scanners to support daily workflow.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide tutoring in Statistics, Pre-Algebra, College Algebra, Precalculus, and Applied Calculus, or train as needed.
  • Explain mathematical concepts clearly in both oral and written form.
  • Use virtual meeting platforms to support student learning when required.
  • Organize time and tutoring sessions efficiently.
  • Ensure accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks.
  • Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Use learning platforms such as D2L and MyLab Math.
  • Apply teaching methods such as flipped classroom or math emporium models.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

JOB LOCATION
This is an on-site position with the primary workplace in the Math Lab located in the Adkisson Administration Building at Cleveland State Community College in Cleveland, Tennessee.
