Description:

The Director of Accounting leads the accounting function and is responsible for accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance across the organization. This role serves as a strategic partner to the executive leadership team by providing financial insights and recommendations to improve financial performance. The Director oversees the accounting team, month-end and year-end close, audit coordination, and financial process improvement.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Lead day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, reconciliations, financial reporting, and close processes.
  • Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of accounting records and reporting.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.
  • Coordinate external audits and provide supporting schedules, documentation, and follow-up.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and other financial planning activities.
  • Review journal entries, balance sheet schedules, and account reconciliations.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable accounting standards, laws, and regulations.
  • Partner with leadership on financial analysis, special projects, and process improvements.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
  • Collaborate with other departments to resolve accounting and reporting issues.
  • Coach, teach and mentor.
  • Support LHMSH culture by promoting “Friendly, Positive, and Focused on Excellence”.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
  • Seven to ten years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership experience; public accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the health care industry and multi-entity accounting preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience with month-end close and external audits preferred.
  • Proficiency in accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
