ย Position Title / Rank:ย Assistant Professor
Department: School of Computer Scienceย ย Position Description:

The School of Computer Science at the University of Guelph invites applications for two (2) tenure-track positions in Software Engineering & AI / Applied AI at the Assistant Professor level, with an earliest start date ofย January 1, 2027.

Qualificationsย 

The search is restricted to candidates whose research and teaching interests are in the areas of Software Engineering and AI.ย 

Education and Backgroundย 

At the time of appointment, candidatesย are required toย have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field.ย Previousย academic experience, including post-doctoral or prior academicย appointmentsย will be considered an asset. Relevant industrial experience will also be taken into consideration.ย 

Scholarshipย 

The successful candidate should have remarkable scholarship in Computer Science with demonstrated impact. The candidate must propose an independent and fundable scholarship program in their Scholarship Statement and demonstrate their ability to conduct innovative scholarship that complements the school's current scholarship strengths.ย 

Teachingย 

The candidate must have a keen interest in undergraduate and graduate teaching. They mustย demonstrateย their ability to teach university-level courses that align with their background. They should be capable of teaching core computer science undergraduate courses at all levels and graduate courses related to theirย scholarshipย area. Preference will be given to candidates with prior experience in supervising students and/or staff onย scholarship-oriented projects.ย 

Serviceย 

Evidence of community engagement is crucial, such as organizing conferences,ย participatingย in outreach, volunteering, or being involved in student clubs or councils. Such evidenceย demonstratesย the candidate's ability to provide service to the School, University, and research community.ย 

Expectationsย 

The successful candidate is expected toย establishย an internationally recognizedย scholarshipย program and secure external funding from tri-council agencies (NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR) or similarly prestigious funding agencies. They will also be expected to supervise graduate students in the current MSc and PhD programs.ย The candidate will typically teach three courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate levels.ย 80% ofย their time will be divided equally betweenย scholarship andย teaching,ย with the remaining 20% forย providing service to the School, College, University, andย scholarshipย community at large.ย 

School ofย Computer Scienceย 

As of Fall 2025, the School of Computer Science has 1,200+ย undergraduate students enrolled across its three undergraduate programs andย 100+ย graduate students in its four graduate programs. It is currently experiencing a growth cycleย inย both undergraduate and graduate enrollments. Theย Schoolย is currently supported by 28ย faculty members andย 8ย staff members.
