Job description

The Referral Specialist's primary role is to provide excellent customer service to physicians and patients referred for appointments or services at or from Tampa General Hospital (or a related company). The referrals specialist assists patients and providers with scheduling provider-referred appointments within the health system or facilitating connections to outside groups at provider direction or based upon patient preference. The referral specialist obtains or facilitates authorizations and may support the practice with non-referral work including patient registration, appointment scheduling, and check-in/out if working in a clinic. 

Essential Functions:

  • Process and track patient referrals
  • Facilitate transfer of medical records
  • Identify and route patient appointment information to correct recipient
  • Create, modify, and cancel appointments
  • Obtain authorizations abd/of referrals as required
  • Correspond with prociders and patients
  • Index faxes
