Title: Azure SQL Database Administrator
Location: Bentonville, AR - Onsite
Duration: 6-12+ months contract
Job Description:-
We are seeking an experienced Azure SQL Database Administrator to manage, monitor, and support cloud-based database environments. This role focuses on Azure SQL administration, production support, performance optimization, and database reliability, ensuring secure and highly available database operations.
Key Responsibilities
Azure SQL Administration (Primary Focus)
• Manage and support Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and related cloud database services.
• Monitor database performance, workloads, and resource utilization using Azure Monitor, Query Store, and other native tools.
• Implement Azure security best practices, including firewalls, encryption, auditing, and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Manage automated backups, geo-replication, failovers, and long-term retention policies.
• Support database deployments, schema changes, and data migrations within Azure environments.
Production Support and Monitoring
• Provide 24/7 production support on a rotational basis.
• Conduct daily health checks and proactively identify performance or capacity issues.
• Monitor database availability, integrity, and performance using industry-standard monitoring tools.
Backup, Recovery, and Failover
• Execute and manage database backup and restore operations.
• Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery (DR) planning, testing, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with defined Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) targets.
Database Maintenance
• Apply patches, updates, and security fixes to maintain database stability and security.
• Perform data refreshes, cloning, environment setup, and migrations.
• Manage database users, permissions, and security policies.
Performance Tuning
• Analyze and optimize slow-running queries and database workloads.
• Improve indexing strategies and database configurations to enhance performance.
• Collaborate with development and application teams to resolve performance issues and optimize database usage.
Incident and Problem Management
• Respond to incidents within defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring or critical issues.
• Document issues, resolutions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and knowledge base articles.
Change and Release Support
• Support database releases, updates, and change requests.
• Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes and follow established change management protocols.
Required Skills and Qualifications
• Strong experience with Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance administration.
• Experience with database monitoring, performance tuning, and optimization.
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
• Experience managing database security, RBAC, and compliance requirements.
• Strong understanding of incident, problem, and change management processes.
• Experience supporting production environments and high-availability systems.
• Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and collaboration skills.
