Overview

Cloud Database Administrator / Database Developer (CESAM):

Bowhead seeks a Cloud DBA/ Database Developer who will serve as a technical specialist responsible for supporting databases and cloud-based data environments. Performs administration, development, maintenance, and optimization activities to ensure systems are secure, reliable, and efficient. Supports data management, documentation, compliance, and continuity of operations across assigned platforms and services. Applies technical expertise to improve system performance and support organizational and mission requirements.

This position is Hybrid: two days in Mobile, 3 days telework

Responsibilities
  • Monitor database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement tuning strategies to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Perform database administration activities, including backups, restoration procedures, disaster recovery planning, and migrations.
  • Manage and maintain cloud databases ensuring high availability, security, and compliance with DISA STIG requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain robust data models that support application and business requirements while ensuring scalability and performance.
  • Support database development activities, including query optimization and performance improvement.
  • Apply strong SQL skills across relational and non-relational database platforms.
  • Support security and compliance activities, including STIG implementation and remediation.
  • Inventory and catalog data assets to support data governance, accountability, and compliance requirements.
  • Configure, maintain, assist in the design of, and test disaster recovery plans with defined RTO/RPO objectives across all supported platforms.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation related to database environments, configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Production cloud database experience required, with Azure preferred.
Qualifications
  • BA/S in relevant technical field preferred. Years of experience may substitute in education requirement. 
  • Five (5+) years of relevant technical experience.
  • Proficiency in Python for data processing and automation.
  • Strong SQL skills across relational and non-relational databases and/or Database Administrator, including expertise in stored procedures and performance tuning.
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks (e.g., Spark) including streaming workloads.
  • Familiarity with message brokers and event-driven ingestion patterns.
  • Experience with data cataloging and inventory for governance and compliance.
  • Production cloud experience (Azure preferred).
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and IaC/GitOps practices.
  • Ability to design scalable solutions and troubleshoot complex data and system issues.
  • Experience supporting security and compliance in cloud environments - controls implementation, logging, IAM, encryption, and audit support aligned to NIST 800-53 or equivalent frameworks.

SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to obtain a security clearance at the Public Trust level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Public Trust clearance at this location.
