Industry UsageOrganizations leveraging Azure cloud servicesOrganizations managing large-scale data pipelines and storage
Common Search IntentAzure Data roles, Azure Data solutionsData pipeline development, data architecture

Azure Data professionals focus on managing data within the Azure cloud ecosystem, utilizing Azure-specific tools and services. Data Engineers have a broader scope, designing and building data pipelines across various platforms, including Azure, AWS, or on-premises systems. While Azure Data roles are specialized for Azure environments, Data Engineers work across multiple cloud providers and on-premises setups, making their roles more versatile in data infrastructure development.

How does an Azure Data professional typically collaborate with other teams within an organization?

Azure Data professionals frequently work alongside data engineers, business analysts, developers, and IT administrators to ensure that data solutions are robust, scalable, and meet business needs. They often participate in cross-functional meetings to understand requirements, troubleshoot issues, and optimize data pipelines. Effective communication is key, as they translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and provide guidance on best practices for data storage, processing, and security within Azure environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Azure Data professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Azure Data professional, you need expertise in data modeling, SQL, and cloud data architecture, typically supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure services (such as Azure SQL Database, Data Factory, Synapse Analytics), and certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate are highly valued. Strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you excel in cross-functional teams and translate business requirements into technical solutions. These competencies ensure data solutions are robust, scalable, and aligned with organizational goals in a rapidly evolving cloud environment.

What is an Azure Data job?

Azure Data jobs refer to roles that focus on managing, analyzing, and securing data using Microsoft's Azure cloud platform. These positions can include data engineers, data analysts, database administrators, and data architects who work with Azure services like Azure SQL Database, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Synapse Analytics. Responsibilities often involve designing data solutions, building data pipelines, ensuring data quality, and implementing security best practices on Azure. Professionals in Azure Data roles help organizations leverage cloud-based data technologies to gain insights, optimize operations, and support business decision-making.

Job description

Role Overview

We are looking for a Solutions Architect - Managed Services to join our Elastic Platform Operations (EPO) team. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, and ongoing optimization of cloud-native data platforms on Snowflake, AWS, and Azure for our managed services clients, ensuring they are secure, scalable, and aligned to strategic business goals. You will collaborate closely with clients, internal engineering and support teams, and practice leadership to deliver high-quality solutions, maximize platform ROI, and advance phData's delivery excellence.

Key ResponsibilitiesClient Delivery
  • Own and drive end-to-end solution architecture, design, and implementation of large-scale, cloud-native data platform projects on Snowflake, AWS, and Azure for managed services customers.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into secure, scalable platform solutions, including migrations from legacy platforms (e.g., Redshift, Azure Data Warehouse), integration of data lakes and data warehouses, and performance optimization of enterprise data workloads.
  • Ensure engagements are delivered on time, within scope, and with measurable business value by proactively optimizing platform performance, reliability, and costs through automation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
Collaboration & Leadership
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners across sales, engineering, and support, as well as client stakeholders including executives, to align platform strategies and roadmaps with business goals and ensure high customer satisfaction.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to delivery teams during migrations, integrations, incident response, and performance tuning, guiding engineers through complex implementation challenges.
  • Ensure high quality in deliverables through robust architecture standards, documentation, testing, and governance, including the implementation of strong security and data governance practices on client platforms.
  • Partner with practice and account leaders to manage multiple customer engagements simultaneously, preventing resource overruns, maximizing platform ROI, and reinforcing phData's Operational Maturity Framework with clients.
Practice & Firm Contribution
  • Contribute to the evolution of phData's Elastic Platform Operations offerings by promoting the Operational Maturity Framework, codifying best practices, and feeding lessons learned back into accelerators, templates, and playbooks.
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, sharing best practices in cloud-native architecture, operations, and consulting to foster a culture of continuous learning and excellence.
  • Support pre-sales and scoping efforts as needed by partnering with sales and practice leadership to shape viable managed services solutions that balance technical feasibility, risk, and client value.
About You

You are a strategic, client-focused solutions architect who enjoys building and operating scalable, cloud-native data platforms that solve complex business problems. You are comfortable leading technical teams, managing multiple projects, and operating in distributed, global environments where outcomes and continuous improvement matter more than routines. You bring a hands-on mindset, strong communication skills, and a passion for aligning data infrastructure with long-term business goals.

Required QualificationsExperience
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience architecting, designing, implementing, and managing cloud-native data platforms and solutions, ideally in a consulting or managed services environment.

Technical / Functional Skills

  • Deep expertise with modern enterprise data platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, and Azure SQL Data Warehouse, including strong skills in performance tuning and troubleshooting.
  • Strong cloud experience across AWS, Azure, and the Snowflake ecosystem, including services such as S3, ADLS, Kinesis, Azure Data Factory, dbt, and Kafka.
  • Proven ability to build and operate scalable, secure data platforms aligned to strategic business goals, with a focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL and SQL-based workloads, including writing, debugging, and optimizing complex queries.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines and tooling (e.g., Bitbucket, GitHub).
  • Hands-on experience with data integration and ingestion tools such as AWS Data Migration Services, Azure Data Factory, Matillion, Fivetran, or Spark.
  • Active daily use of AI coding tools (Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Claude, ChatGPT, or equivalent) with demonstrated judgment about when to trust, verify, and correct AI-generated output.
  • Ability to describe specific engineering tasks completed with AI assistance.
Consulting / Delivery Skills
  • Strong client-facing communication skills, with experience presenting architectural recommendations to executive stakeholders and creating clear, detailed solution documentation.
  • Experience delivering and managing multiple concurrent customer engagements in a professional services or consulting environment, ensuring timely delivery and optimized operations.
  • Ability to serve as a trusted advisor on data platform strategy, helping clients navigate technical trade-offs to meet business goals.
  • Ability to break down complex, ambiguous platform challenges into structured, actionable steps and drive them through to completion.
Collaboration & Ownership
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with distributed and cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and support, to ensure seamless project delivery and high customer satisfaction.
  • Proven track record of taking ownership of outcomes, anticipating upstream data and platform changes, and proactively managing risks to minimize impact on users and systems.
  • Experience mentoring and guiding junior engineers and contributing to a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
