The Lead Azure Data Engineer operates as a technology expert and architect responsible for the design, development, and implementation of enterprise-scale data solutions using Microsoft Azure technologies. This role functions at an enterprise level with accountability for solution delivery, adherence to technology best practices, a 24/7 support model, and defined service level agreements with business leadership.
In addition to deep technical expertise, the role requires elite communication and problem-solving skills. The Lead Azure Data Engineer must translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, influence architectural decisions, and lead cross-functional discussions with confidence. The position demands advanced analytical thinking and structured problem-solving capabilities to diagnose complex data and platform issues, design scalable solutions under ambiguity, and drive timely resolution of business-critical challenges.Primary Duties:
  • Confers with customers and team members to determine requirements; designs business application systems that address and solve corporate business needs; utilizes business and systems knowledge to best meet customer and organizational needs
  • Manages and maintains controls and procedures, ensuring that assigned IT areas are performing significant tasks on schedule and within expense parameters
  • Acts as coordinator, as requested, for Enterprise-Wide priorities; identifies and analyzes issues, devises solutions through cross-functional teamwork and determines corrective action, clearly communicating to stakeholders throughout
  • Assesses requirements and work requests and assigns priorities and resolution targets
  • Assists Manager in preparation of annual budgets and monthly cost allocations
  • Accountable for disaster recovery initiatives and change management standards and procedures
  • Leads and/or assists team members and customers with problem solving related to application performance and usage
  • Establishes, monitors and improves service delivery levels including reliability, availability, accuracy, serviceability and cost
  • Interfaces with all levels of management to develop requirements and obtain approval for implementation of new systems
  • Assists IT Management in the formulation and execution of complex objectives to meet short and long-term company strategic goals
  • Estimates work effort (resources, timeline, cost) for multiple projects across teams/areas of expertise
  • Provides input to the recruiting process
  • Continues development of technical and business proficiency through self-directed education, project assignments and interfacing with representatives of vendors and suppliers; participates in local/regional/national influence groups
  • Manages and accounts for Wolverine resources and assets
  • Interacts in a cross-team capacity to meet customer and organizational needs
  • Provides 24-hour on call support, including evenings and weekends
  • Performs other duties as required/assigned by Manager
  • Performs duties consistent with the company's AAP/EEO goals and policies
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of proven experience in the design and implementation of data warehouse architecture as well as data delivery, data modeling, ETL tools, master data management and deploying highly automated and documented solutions
  • Considered an expert with Cloud Data Engineering (Ex: MS Azure Synapse and/or Fabric)
  • 8+ years of experience with Microsoft Azure data engineering products: Azure Synapse Studio, Pipelines/Workflows, Python Notebooks, Analytic Pools (serverless), SQL Server Development, and DevOps
  • Strong understanding of Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Cost Management, or equivalent tooling
  • Strong understanding of SAP AFS Functional Areas, Sales and Distribution, Order to Cash, Material Management, Procure to Pay a plus
  • Certificates in area of expertise or equivalent training and development.
  • Proven successful assignment record
  • Good analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Good oral and written communication skills
Working Conditions:

Full Time. 100% Remote. Michigan based candidates preferred. Must be located in Eastern on Central Time Zones.
