Cloud & Platform Engineer (Contract)

Role Summary

We are looking for a hands-on Cloud & Platform Engineer to support, evolve, and secure our Azure and Microsoft 365 environment across a distributed retail enterprise. This role focuses on operational excellence, security integration, automation, and production stability.

Cloud Platform Operations

  • Own day-to-day operations of Azure infrastructure and services including networking, compute, storage, Kubernetes, and PaaS workloads
  • Support hybrid environments (Azure + on-prem + retail locations)
  • Maintain uptime, performance, and reliability of business-critical systems

Security & Incident Response

  • Participate in security incident response for cloud and M365 environments
  • Investigate and remediate alerts from Microsoft Defender
  • Partner with Security on containment, remediation, and root cause analysis

Automation & Operational Efficiency

  • Build automation using PowerShell and Azure automation
  • Improve provisioning, scaling, and remediation processes
  • Standardize repeatable infrastructure patterns

Cloud Architecture & Engineering

  • Design and support Azure networking, application hosting, and storage
  • Support modernization and migration efforts

Monitoring, Reliability & Cost Management

  • Monitor cloud workloads and troubleshoot issues
  • Implement cost optimization strategies
  • Improve observability

Backup, Recovery & Resilience

  • Maintain backup and disaster recovery processes
  • Support business continuity planning

Identity & Access

  • Support Entra ID including Conditional Access and PIM
  • Enforce strong authentication controls
  • Part of the team to implement Intune policies while we migrate from on-prem to cloud first

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as escalation point for cloud issues
  • Work cross-functionally with Security, Infrastructure, and applications teams
