Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Administrator
Location: Austin, TX (4-5 days onsite)
Contract Duration: 12-18 months
We are seeking a senior-level Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) Administrator with strong Citrix experience to lead the management, optimization, and security of large-scale virtual desktop environments. This role is heavily centered on AVD architecture, operations, automation, and performance tuning, while also supporting Citrix components within an integrated enterprise ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in Azure platform services, Windows Server administration, networking, and security best practices.
Qualifications:
  • 7+ years administering Azure Virtual Desktop and/or Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops / Citrix DaaS, with an emphasis on large, complex AVD deployments.
  • 5+ years managing Windows Server (AD, GPO, DNS/DHCP, patching, hardening).
  • Strong understanding of Azure networking: VNets, NSGs, firewalls, routing, private endpoints, load balancing, and hybrid connectivity.
  • Advanced PowerShell scripting and comfort with infrastructure-as-code (ARM, Bicep, Terraform).
  • Proven experience with AVD performance tuning, FSLogix user profiles, host pool scaling, image management, and session host optimization.
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Alerts, and Workbooks for visibility and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST 800-53 and CIS benchmarks, especially in Azure environments.
  • Preferred certifications: AZ-104, AZ-140, Citrix CCA-V/CCP-V/CCE-V, ITIL Foundation, CompTIA Network+/Security+.

Key Responsibilities:
Azure Virtual Desktop Administration
  • Lead the design, operation, and optimization of AVD host pools, session hosts, scaling plans, FSLogix profiles, and image deployment pipelines.
  • Oversee AVD integration with Citrix DaaS/CVAD, including StoreFront/Workspace, Autoscale, Cloud Connectors, and Gateway where applicable.
  • Manage AVD policies, application delivery, capacity planning, and performance baselining.
Windows Server & Platform Engineering
  • Build, harden, and maintain Windows Server 2022 platforms, including AD, GPO, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Automate platform tasks using PowerShell, ARM/Bicep/Terraform, and MECM/Intune.
Networking & Security
  • Apply strong fundamentals in TCP/IP, DNS, subnets/VLANs, load balancing, and firewall/ACL management across Azure and on-prem environments.
  • Implement secure connectivity models aligned with least-privilege principles, Azure identity controls, and enterprise security standards.
Monitoring, Optimization & Operations
  • Use Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, Application Insights, and Citrix Director/Analytics for proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
  • Lead incident response, conduct root cause analysis, and maintain clear operational documentation and SOPs.
Governance & Compliance
  • Follow established policies for configuration, security, change control, and access management.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, disaster recovery preparation, and image/platform hardening activities.
Collaboration & Support
  • Work closely with application teams, infrastructure groups, and support staff to ensure a seamless user experience across AVD and Citrix environments.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for critical issues impacting virtual desktop availability.
