Overview
The Windows Cloud division is looking for a Software Engineer II who can help us take Azure Virtual Desktop as well as Windows 365 Cloud PC to a whole new level.
Windows 365 Cloud PC (W365) and Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) have recently been recognized as leaders in the inaugural Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Desktop as a Service (DaaS). At its core, W365 and AVD provide business customers a modern, elastic, cloud-based Windows experience.
Are you interested in challenging distributed systems problems, and building high-scale systems? As a Software Engineer on our team, you will get an amazing opportunity to help design and implement key new platform features and ensure that those features scale and are highly resilient. You will extend your knowledge of cloud compute, hypervisors, desktop virtualization, storage at scale, and other technical areas. You will be part of a team designing new platform capabilities involving virtualized compute, storage, and networking for our core products to enhance the value to our customer base. You will also be a part of an agile team working in a fast-paced environment with engineers, product managers, and partner teams to deliver customer value quickly.

Responsibilities
  • Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.
  • Contributes to the identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.
  • Creates and implements code for a product, service or feature, while reusing code as applicable.
  • Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.
  • Acts as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) working on-call to monitor system/product feature/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions and gains approval to restore system/product feature/service for simple problems.
  • Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, security, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Focus on customer/partner needs through a data driven approach.
  • Improve test coverage for services, organize and implement integration tests, and resolve problem areas.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
    • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience as a software engineer: designing, implementing, and shipping cloud services or software products.
  • 2+ years of experience with distributed systems delivering large-scale, secure, and resilient cloud services and/or microservices.
  • Experience with Azure Backend services.
  • Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to quickly ramp up, understand complex problems, and create solutions across many products.

Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $102,100 - $202,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $133,800 - $219,200 per year.
