Description

SAIC is seeking a System Administrator to join our team based out of Huntsville, AL.

The Junior System Administrator supports the daily administration, maintenance, security, and availability of mission-critical IT systems for a small software development team. The role focuses on managing servers, laptops, desktops, and virtual machines used for development and testing. Responsibilities include routine patching, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining system documentation.

The role leverages scripting and automation to streamline tasks, assists in identifying performance or security issues, and applies approved security baselines and hardening standards across Windows systems.

Please note this role is remote but does require onsite attendance as needed. Candidates must live within 50 miles of Huntsville, AL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, patch, and monitor Windows servers and workstations.
  • Troubleshoot OS, application, hardware, connectivity, and authentication issues using standard tools.
  • Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate maintenance and health checks.
  • Support Senior System Administrator and Cyber Security Analyst as required.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience two (2) years’ hands-on experience; Six (6) years’ additional experience can be considered in lieu of degree (per contract vehicle).

Clearance Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance; US Citizenship required.

Required Qualifications

  • DoD 8140 IAT-II compliant certification (e.g., Security+) or ability to obtain within 30 days.
  • Microsoft Windows 11 / Server or equivalent OS certification.
  • 0-3 years’ hands-on experience in IT, systems administration, or infrastructure support (1-3 years preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft OS and products (Windows 11, Server, Microsoft 365, Teams).
  • Ability to troubleshoot routine hardware/software issues independently and escalate complex problems.
  • Team player with experience coordinating updates and deployments following change management procedures.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience with IIS and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware Cloud Director, AWS EC2).
  • Understanding of Agile methodologies and software development/testing environments.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs, STIG tools and implementation.
