Job Description:
Job Summary: The Lead Avionics Technician works as part of an integrated team on specific aircraft projects. The integrated team consists of the Project Manager, Aircraft Maintenance Supervisor, and the Lead Mechanics. The Lead Avionics Technician is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe work environment, managing costs and delivering a quality aircraft/product on time.
The Lead Avionics Technician prioritizes all work to be accomplished during a specific shift. Perform work within budgeted time within the Company, FAA, and our customers' standards of quality. His/her responsibilities include the setup of the oncoming shift in terms of job assignments that he/she coordinates with the off-going Lead Avionics Technician on his/her specific shift so as to create a smooth transition during shift changes. The Lead Avionics Technician also helps develop and maintain budget.
  • Additional Hourly Pay Rate: $2.00 per License

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Administrative Duties:
  • Monitor and maintain attendance records of assigned crew.
  • Audit and approved weekly work records of assigned work group.
  • Ensure accountability to conduct themselves within the guidelines of company policies, work rules and regulatory regulation.
  • Monitor performance and complete proficiency appraisals of assigned work group.
  • Evaluate vacation requests against scheduling/manpower requirements and respond as needed.
  • Promote a culture of safety by monitoring self and others to assure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by the Company Safety Manual.
  • Manage operations in the most effective manner, eliminating waste and improving productivity.
  • Provide coaching, counseling and guidance to the assigned work group.
  • Maintain and track budgets as set by Project Manager. Communicate problem areas and resolve conflicts and discrepancies.
  • Perform any disciplinary actions required within the assigned work group in compliance with established guidelines.
  • Attend meetings as needed to discuss critical path areas, planned work, critical parts, and overall aircraft status.
  • Interact with Planner to set and prioritize daily activities and set aircraft delivery schedule.

Process Duties:
  • Perform a daily area inspection to ensure a clean and safe working environment.
  • Perform periodic toolbox inspections.
  • Monitor confined space compliance.
  • Monitor LOTO procedures for compliance.
  • Ensure all IPM & FAA regulations are adhered to.
  • Participate in aircraft investigations to help find root causes and develop corrective actions.
  • Complete accident investigation and follow-up as needed.
  • Perform periodic in-process audits of assigned crew.
  • Monitor safety during work shift.
  • Meet with oncoming Lead Mechanic and maintain detailed shift turnover.

Technical Duties:
  • Process N/R's to provide an accurate estimate and suggested repair.
  • Assign the proper manpower to perform work assignments.
  • Monitor mechanics' progress and give guidance.
  • Ensure technical training is provided to employees as needed.
  • Inspect the work of mechanics prior to the quality control buybacks.
  • Ensure mechanics are using current data to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Ensure all required parts are ordered and tracked.
  • Provides the project manager and business planner with accurate data and estimates and assists with the planning of the project.

Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • A/P or Airframe Certified; preferred but not required.
  • 3 to 5 Years' experience.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Assist Engineering with repairs.
  • Able to interpret technical data such as SRM, CMM, IPC, Drawings and Eos.
