Job description

SUMMARY
The Assembly Technician is responsible for installing components and equipment on light and heavy-duty chassis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Plan and perform a wide variety of fitting, assembly, installation, and alignment of components to operating requirements.
  • Perform work as outlined in a build order or change order with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Build all units consistent to company standards.
  • Read and interpret schematics to determine sequence, tooling requirements and allowable tolerances.
  • Install 12V/24V electrical systems.
  • Install special components for the truck design.
  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications.
  • Align and or fit parts according to specifications.
  • Position and tighten components into position.
  • Move parts into position manually or with hoist or crane.
  • Properly document work performed.
  • Maintain all necessary shop and personal equipment and tooling.
  • Keep the shop area clean and always be accountable for all tools.
  • Ensure the customers’ trucks and equipment are kept neat and clean.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFCATIONS: To perform this job successfully, the employee must be able to perform essential functions satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
  • Ability to read hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic schematics.
  • Have quality mechanic tools with upright rolling toolbox.
  • Be familiar with tools such as drill, angle grinder, torque wrench and impact tools.
  • Ability to use and read a tape measure proficiently.
  • Have a working knowledge of safety requirements and follow and practice them
  • Ability to work with all departments efficiently.
  • Good time management including planning, organization and prioritization.
  • Work assigned shift and adhere to all attendance policies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • Two years of mechanical/heavy equipment experience with the use of mechanic tools.
  • Experience with electrical systems (12V and 24V)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, crawl, stoop, and reach and feel with hands and arms, use hands to assemble parts, and will occasionally use a ladder or stepstool. The employee is required to see to inspect the details of the assembled truck. The employee is occasionally required to sit and must be able to clearly communicate with others verbally or via written communication. The employee must frequently lift and or move up to 50 pounds and might occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.

The noise level of the shop is moderate to loud, consisting of normal vehicle shop environment and activities. Employees work inside a building that is not climate controlled.
