This position serves as the Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) while leading maintenance personnel responsible for the inspection, troubleshooting, repair, modification, installation, and operational testing of F/A-18 aircraft ordnance and armament systems across multiple variants. The successful candidate will ensure all maintenance is performed in accordance with NAVAIR technical publications, quality assurance standards, explosive safety requirements, and established Navy maintenance procedures.

Position SummaryThe Aircraft Mechanic II - Ordnance CDI Team Lead performs and supervises scheduled and unscheduled organizational-level maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft while providing technical leadership and quality oversight for ordnance and armament maintenance activities. This position serves as the designated Ordnance CDI, ensuring maintenance actions are completed correctly, inspected thoroughly, documented accurately, and returned to service safely while supporting daily flight operations and mission readiness.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate scheduled and unscheduled organizational-level maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft across multiple variants.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to Aircraft Mechanic I and II personnel performing aircraft maintenance and ordnance-related tasks.
- Perform, supervise, troubleshoot, inspect, repair, modify, install, remove, and operationally test aircraft mechanical and ordnance systems.
- Maintain and repair aircraft ordnance and armament systems, weapons release systems, bomb racks, ejector racks, missile launchers, launch rails, gun systems, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, fuel systems, powerplant support systems, flight controls, and associated mechanical components.
- Conduct scheduled inspections, corrosion control, servicing, aircraft modifications, and operational checks in accordance with approved maintenance publications.
- Diagnose aircraft discrepancies by interpreting engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, Maintenance Instruction Manuals (MIMs), Illustrated Parts Breakdowns (IPBs), blueprints, and other approved technical publications.
- Remove, replace, rig, align, adjust, and operationally test aircraft and ordnance system components following maintenance actions.
- Assist with the preparation of Maintenance Engineering Changes (MECs), Estimated Cost of Damage (ECOD) documentation, and maintenance process improvements.
- Perform operational and functional checks to verify aircraft and ordnance system serviceability.
- Utilize specialized aircraft maintenance tools, diagnostic equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, precision measuring instruments, and aircraft support equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance documentation, inspection records, discrepancy reports, maintenance action forms, and aircraft logbook entries.
- Lead maintenance teams during complex aircraft and ordnance maintenance evolutions while ensuring production schedules and mission requirements are met.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production Control, Quality Assurance, engineering personnel, and Government representatives.
- Maintain compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, Tool Control Program (TCP), explosive safety requirements, environmental regulations, OSHA safety standards, and NAVAIR maintenance procedures.
- Serve as the designated Ordnance Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) for maintenance performed on aircraft ordnance and armament systems.
- Perform CDI inspections in accordance with applicable NAVAIR maintenance instructions, quality assurance procedures, and organizational standards.
- Verify maintenance has been completed correctly before aircraft or ordnance systems are returned to operational status.
- Inspect completed maintenance for workmanship, proper installation, torque application, safety wiring, hardware configuration, system rigging, and compliance with technical publications.
- Verify proper installation, configuration, and operational readiness of aircraft armament system components.
- Ensure all maintenance involving explosive devices and ordnance systems complies with explosive safety requirements and applicable technical directives.
- Review maintenance documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with Navy maintenance documentation requirements.
- Identify discrepancies, coordinate corrective actions, and certify maintenance completion upon satisfactory inspection.
- Ensure maintenance personnel use current technical publications, maintenance manuals, and approved procedures during all ordnance-related maintenance activities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
