Title: Senior Backup Storage & SAN Engineer

Location: Mahwah, NJ (Hybrid)

Type: Contract

Role Summary

  • We are seeking a Senior Backup Engineer with 8+ years of experience supporting large-scale enterprise backup and storage environments.
  • The role requires strong hands-on expertise in Dell NetWorker and Dell Data Domain, with the ability to independently manage routine backup operations and own complex incidents through resolution across backup, server, virtualization, SAN, NAS, and storage technologies.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Administer, configure, support, and optimize Dell NetWorker backup environments.
  • Manage NetWorker environment setup, installation, configuration, policy management, backup operations, restore/recovery, monitoring, reporting, maintenance, updates, security, and compliance activities.
  • Configure, monitor, troubleshoot, and support Dell Data Domain systems, including system setup, connectivity, performance, capacity, replication, and hardware-related issues.
  • Independently troubleshoot backup failures, restore issues, performance degradation, connectivity problems, and infrastructure incidents.
  • Perform end-to-end troubleshooting across the Host → Data Protection → Data Domain stack.
  • Support backup and recovery operations across physical servers, virtualized platforms, SAN, NAS, and storage environments.
  • Lead incident, service request, change, and problem-management activities within SLA-driven environments.
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Execute changes, upgrades, patching, maintenance, and infrastructure improvements in a controlled manner.
  • Proactively monitor backup infrastructure, capacity, jobs, alerts, health, and performance.
  • Coordinate complex technical issues with Dell, Wasabi, Acronis, and other OEM/vendor support teams.
  • Support high availability, replication, disaster recovery, and business-continuity initiatives.
  • Maintain runbooks, SOPs, technical documentation, operational reports, and stakeholder communications.

Must-Have Skills

  • 8+ years of relevant enterprise Backup / Data Protection / Storage experience
  • Dell NetWorker – strong hands-on administration and troubleshooting
  • NetWorker installation, configuration, policy management, backup operations, restore/recovery, monitoring, maintenance, security, and support
  • Dell Data Domain – hands-on system setup, configuration, monitoring, troubleshooting, capacity, replication, and performance management
  • Strong end-to-end troubleshooting across Host → Data Protection → Data Domain
  • Enterprise backup and recovery operations
  • Backup failure analysis, recovery validation, and performance troubleshooting
  • Linux/Unix and Windows server troubleshooting
