Job Description Summary

In coordination with the Brendle and Wait Associate Director this position will oversee events in Wait Chapel, Brendle Hall, The Welcome Center, and other places on campus. This person may be the main contact for an event or may be given information about an event and oversee a crew to accomplish the needs of the event. This is a theatrical and event-based position.

Job DescriptionEssential Functions:

Coordination among event personnel, board operations, and stagehands for events. Oversee execution of events from a technical standpoint, including lighting, sound, audiovisual elements, recording, and stage management. For larger events, the Associate Director for Wait and Brendle will collaborate with this individual. In the case of smaller events, they may operate independently. Provides support for the technical requirements of various campus venues as necessary. Collaborates with the University events team to offer consultation or assistance for significant campus events held in Brendle or Wait spaces. This individual will also be tasked with additional responsibilities as designated by the Brendle and Wait Associate Director. The duties may involve the movement and lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds. Responsibilities may also include managing time sheets, prepare reports, and oversee maintenance or other assignments with minimal supervision. Move musical instruments and stands.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Five-years professional experience is required or bachelorโ€™s degree in theatrical programming with one yearโ€™s experience. An easy-going personality and punctuality are important in this position. Knowledge of theatre and stage direction. Strong troubleshooting abilities. Experience as a sound, lighting, or video department head on tour, or in an AV rental company, or an assistant technical director or technical director in a theatre. If sound is their specialty, they should be able to name all types of cables, microphones, understand wireless microphones and RF. They should have several yearsโ€™ experience mixing live sound with an understanding of EQ, compression, and things like the proximity effect, phasing, delay. Have knowledge of recording equipment and playback software such as Qlab and be familiar with Dante. If lighting is this candidate's specialty, then they should be able to operate moving lights with ETC consoles to an advanced level and be creative with their lighting design. They should be able to use focus sheets and run a lighting restore. They should understand Conventional and LED lighting, Gels, Gobos, DMX and focusing instruments and be able to safely meter and connect cam lock power. Portable Event lighting knowledge is preferred.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Masterโ€™s degree. Basic knowledge of music. Technical expertise with lighting, sound and AV recording. Experience managing budget and crew schedules.

Must have the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time; to use power tools, sound and lighting equipment; ability to lift 25 -50 pounds; to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, ladder, scaffold: walk and reach overhead.
