Av Editor information

What is an AV editor?

AV Editors, or Audio-Visual Editors, are professionals who specialize in editing and assembling audio and video footage to create finished multimedia content. They work on projects such as films, television shows, commercials, music videos, and online content. Their responsibilities include cutting and arranging raw footage, adding sound effects and music, color correction, and ensuring the final product meets the desired vision and technical standards. AV Editors use specialized software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or Avid Media Composer to perform their tasks. Strong attention to detail and creativity are essential skills for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an AV editor?

To thrive as an AV Editor, you need a solid understanding of video and audio editing principles, storytelling, and a relevant degree or experience in media production. Proficiency with editing software like Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and audio tools such as Audition or Pro Tools is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help an AV Editor collaborate effectively and produce engaging content. These skills and qualities are crucial for delivering high-quality multimedia projects that meet client or audience expectations.

What are some common challenges an AV editor might face when working on tight production deadlines?

AV Editors frequently work on projects with strict deadlines, which can pose challenges such as managing last-minute changes, handling large volumes of raw footage, and ensuring high-quality output under time pressure. Effective organization, clear communication with producers and directors, and proficiency with editing software are essential to meet these demands. Collaborating closely with other post-production staff and being adaptable to shifting priorities can help AV Editors deliver projects on time without sacrificing quality.

Job description

About the Role

We're looking for a Producer to drive the end-to-end production of our growing In-House Editorial team. Reporting to the In-House Editorial Manager, this role is the production force behind a high-volume editorial pipeline — establishing how creative vision becomes finished work, from the first brief to final delivery.

This position lives at the intersection of creative and production. The Producer partners closely with Creative Directors, Creative Producers, and Editors to build the production infrastructure that enables great creative work to be produced - translating vision into executable production plans, shepherding projects through post, and ensuring every deliverable lands on time, and to spec. The right candidate has knowledge of the creative process, brings deep fluency in entertainment marketing post-production, and the leadership presence to guide editors, creative stakeholders, and finishing teams from kickoff through delivery.

This is a production role that demands production intelligence. The Producer doesn't just manage timelines — they actively structure how projects are built, sequenced, and resourced to protect the timeline and process that enables creative ambition to be realized.

Key Responsibilities

Creative Production Leadership

  • Lead production across a full slate of editorial deliverables — including TV spots, trailers, social and digital content, AV, custom content, BTS, featurettes, liners, and promotional assets — owning each project from brief through final delivery.
  • Drive project kickoffs with Creative Directors, Creative Producers, and Editors, translating creative vision and brief requirements into structured production plans that support creative intent while establishing clear scope, milestones, and delivery timelines.
  • Actively structure how projects are built — sequencing production to create space for creative exploration, iteration, and refinement without sacrificing delivery.
  • Anticipate the downstream production impact of decisions made in editorial, communicating risks proactively and building contingency into plans before issues arise.

Editorial & Post-Production Workflow

  • Own the production lifecycle across multiple concurrent assignments — from intake and offline editorial through finishing and final delivery — serving as the production anchor for the editorial team.
  • Partner closely with editors and assistant editors to ensure projects are properly set up, resourced, and routed through post efficiently and without friction.
  • Maintain real-time visibility into editorial priorities, project status, approvals, and next steps — keeping all creative and production stakeholders aligned as work evolves.
  • Proactively identify and resolve workflow bottlenecks, asset issues, and scheduling conflicts before they affect timelines or creative momentum.
  • Manage the cadence of reviews, revisions, and stakeholder feedback throughout editorial, ensuring the process supports — rather than disrupts — editorial output.

Finishing & Delivery

  • Drive workflows across graphics, VFX, color, sound mix, online/conform, versioning, QC, and delivery — ensuring finishing supports the creative vision through to the final frame.
  • Ensure project handoffs are accurate, thorough, and delivered with all necessary assets, references, and technical specifications.
  • Oversee final deliveries across formats and platforms, including cutdowns, texted/textless outputs, localization, and platform-specific versions.
  • Serve as the primary production point of contact with finishing teams and vendors, ensuring deadlines, specs, and delivery standards are met.

Creative Partnerships & Communication

  • Serve as the connective tissue between the In-House Editorial team and cross-functional partners — creative, finishing, operations, and delivery — ensuring information flows clearly and production decisions move forward.
  • Keep project documentation, trackers, and status communications consistently current and accessible to all stakeholders.
  • Surface issues, blockers, or timeline risks to the In-House Editorial Manager with clear context and proposed solutions.

Production Systems & Asset Management

  • Utilize tools such as Frame.io, Box, Airtable, or similar platforms to manage review cycles, organize assets, and maintain full production visibility across the team.
  • Own and maintain editorial trackers, workflow documentation, and internal process materials.
  • Audit and maintain server and cloud-based file structures in support of team organization and retrieval standards.
  • Continuously refine production workflows, identify efficiency gains, and build scalable systems that support the team's output as it grows.

Qualifications

  • 5–8+ years of experience in creative production, editorial production, or post-production, ideally within entertainment marketing, agency, streaming, studio, network, or trailer house environments.
  • Proven track record producing high-volume editorial output — trailers, TV spots, social, digital, AV, and promotional content — from kickoff through delivery.
  • Deep understanding of the full post-production pipeline: asset development, offline editorial, finishing (color, sound, online/conform, graphics/VFX), versioning, QC, and delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate creative vision into production plans that hit deadlines and protect the schedule needed for creative work to succeed.
  • Working knowledge of technical requirements including frame rates, aspect ratios, codecs, captions, slates, and delivery specs.
  • A collaborative production instinct — able to build trust with Editors and Creative Directors alike.
  • Proficiency with Frame.io, Box, Airtable, or comparable production and asset management tools.
  • Strong communication, production judgment, and problem-solving skills, with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience embedded within an in-house editorial team at an agency, studio, streamer, or network.
  • Familiarity with AV marketing workflows — including short and long-form content such as teasers, trailers, and featurettes — and campaign-based production.
  • A demonstrated ability to hold creative sensitivity and production rigor in equal measure across a high-volume slate.

What Success Looks Like

  • Editorial projects move efficiently from kickoff through production, finish and delivery — on time, to spec, and at a high bar.
  • Editors and assistant editors are unblocked, resourced, and able to stay in creative flow because production systems are responsive and well-run.
  • Creative kickoffs are sharp — vision is clearly translated into production plans that set every project up to succeed.
  • Finishing and delivery workflows are tight: handoffs are clean, specs are met, and final assets go out accurately and on schedule.
  • The Producer is a trusted production partner to creative leadership — someone who earns trust by running a process that is organized, proactive and built to deliver results.
  • Workflow documentation, trackers, and status communications are consistently current and accessible.
  • The Producer remains adaptable and grounded as projects evolve, priorities shift, and creative direction changes — keeping production steady and the editorial team moving forward throughout the lifecycle.
