Job description

GRE HERC Services LLC has an opening for a full-time Auxiliary Operator at its downtown Minneapolis facility. Our mission is to provide Hennepin County with cost effective resource recovery in harmony with a sustainable environment. HERC helps the county manage waste by burning garbage to create energy for the electric grid and steam for nearby buildings.

As a licensed Auxiliary Operator, you will operate and inspect various waste systems and equipment as assigned. These include the boilers and their associated systems such as fans, grates, ash and emission systems.

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Making certain that boilers and their associated systems such as fans, grates, ash and emission systems are functioning properly
  • Operating various types of equipment safely, including boilers, pumps, motors, valves, fans, dampers, conveyors and other auxiliary systems
  • Maintaining work areas in a clean, orderly and safe manner
  • Monitoring and inspecting equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation
  • Communicating information to supervisors and team members

To qualify for this position you must:

  • Hold a current ASME Provisional or MN Waste Combustor provisional and MN 2nd Class A Boiler License or be able to obtain the licensure within two years of taking the position
  • Auxiliary Operator on-the-job training (OJT) must be completed within 12 months of starting the position
  • Have experience servicing and adjusting boilers and related systems
  • Know and practice excellent safety practices
  • Be able to adjust to rotating shifts every 8 days
  • Be able to work in a wide range of climatic conditions
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds and physically qualify for use of respirator equipment

This position works rotating 4 X 4 โ€“ 12 hour shifts. Hours are: 6:00 AM โ€“ 6:00 PM for 4 days, 4 days off, and then the next 4 day shift is from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM. It is a union position with pay starting at $45.60 per hour. We offer medical, dental, vision, life, disability, paid time off, retirement plan, free on-site parking and more. Ability to work overtime is required. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position for drug, cannabis and alcohol testing purposes.
