Job description

Auxiliary Volunteers are essential and much appreciated in our hospital. They are often the first point of contact for patients and visitors. Currently, Auxiliary Volunteers are assigned to the Information Desk and to Admitting.
It is suggested that volunteers work 4 shifts per month, but the ability and willingness to work more shifts is appreciated and needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Greet all patients and visitors
  • Look for those who need assistance and offer a wheelchair as appropriate
  • Transport all wheelchair patients to their destination
  • Answer telephone and transfer calls as requested
  • Answer information inquiries of a general nature
  • Give accurate directions to patients' rooms and departments (provide escort to departments and rooms when able)
  • Deliver mail and floral arrangements (etc) to patients and employees.
  • Assist staff with various tasks, as requested
  • Perform clerical work and other duties, as requested, that will provide service to the patients and visitors

Qualifications
  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • Be positive and service-oriented
  • Good organizational and telephone skills
  • Physically able to withstand long periods of walking, standing, and pushing a wheelchair
  • Must be able to communicate in English (bilingual is a plus)
  • Good personal hygiene
Physical Requirements:
  • Lifting items up to 10 pounds

  • Bending, stooping and reaching
  • Must be able to climb stairs when elevators are not available
