We are currently seeking an experienced Metal Stamping Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on tool and die or tooling technician experience who is ready to apply their expertise in an engineering capacity while supporting new model launches, tooling optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do

As a Metal Stamping Press Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful launch, transfer, and optimization of stamping dies while supporting manufacturing operations and customer expectations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Attend new tool buy-offs at domestic and international supplier locations.
  • Manage tooling transfers between manufacturing facilities.
  • Lead new and transferred tooling tryouts to ensure optimal performance, including:
    • Production speed (SPM)
    • Scrap flow optimization
    • Formability improvements
    • Dimensional accuracy
    • Overall die performance
  • Collaborate with Program Management, Quality, Tool & Die, Assembly Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to achieve project milestones and successful production launches (SOP).
  • Communicate directly with customers as needed regarding tooling and production concerns.
  • Continuously improve stamping processes to increase productivity and profitability.
  • Identify and implement material reduction and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Coordinate outsourced products and engineering services when required.
  • Provide feedback to improve die design standards.
  • Support additional engineering and manufacturing projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience as a Tool Maker or Tooling Technician in a large transfer press (1,500-ton or larger) sheet metal stamping environment.
  • Strong understanding of metal stamping processes and die functionality.
  • Experience supporting tooling tryouts and production launches.
  • Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).

Technical Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to open and review CAD models using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar software.
  • Understanding of material properties and heat treatment processes.
  • Experience using precision measuring equipment including:
    • Calipers
    • Micrometers
    • Height gauges
    • Dial indicators
  • Ability to diagnose and properly set die clearances for:
    • Form dies
    • Draw dies
    • Pierce dies
    • Notch/Cut dies
  • Experience using Circle Grid Analysis to evaluate part formability and develop corrective actions.
  • Ability to establish preventive Die Maintenance Plans.
  • Experience specifying or installing in-die protection sensors is preferred.

Education

  • Technical Diploma or Engineering Degree preferred.
  • Equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for tooling buyoffs, supplier visits, and project support.
